On June 16, 2012, three apprentice multi-skilled mechanics from Mikron SA Boudry saw off 1100 competitors to take three of the top-ranking places in "Tool Champions 2012", the competition that honors the country's top milling machine operators.
Quentin Barben became Swiss champion in CNC milling, while Tibor Csonka took second place in the same category for French-speaking Switzerland. Finally, to really put the icing on the cake, Joël von Gunten came third in the conventional milling category for French-speaking Switzerland.
The three young people notched up this impressive string of successes at the "Tool Champions 2012" competition organized by Fraisa Group in Bellach, which was attended by more than 1000 apprentice multi-skilled mechanics from all over Switzerland. The challenge facing competitors was to machine a piece from a technical drawing supplied by a group of experts. These experts, who come from different industrial sectors operating in Switzerland, doubled up as judges.
As a leader in its field that is committed to providing training for young people, Mikron SA Boudry has had a training centre for multi-skilled mechanics for more than 30 years. Apprentices regularly rank among the best in the canton, helping to keep going a trade that is the backbone of industry in the region.
