“Due to new technologies, the whole office market is being turned upside down,” he says. “For many companies, the paperless office is already reality. We will still be selling the classic edding 3000 20 years from now. But the number we sell will decrease. We are also researching disruptive technologies. This will be another important future issue.”
Already, edding is acknowledged for its interactive solutions. Under its brand Legamaster, the company develops and sells whiteboards and e-screens.
“We offer comprehensive solutions,” says Mr. Ledermann. “For example, we help our clients in choosing the right software and offer electronic solutions such as height adjustable products. In the interactive field consultancy is extremely important, too.”
Still, markers are the mainstay of the business. edding offers an unparalleled assortment of office markers, professional and industrial markers, markers for private purposes, for decoration, for artistic and creative use.
The company is particularly known for the excellent performance of its industrial markers. For example, edding developed a special aerospace marker for the turbines of an airplane in cooperation with British Aerospace. Also, the company’s creative assortment with porcelain markers, metallic and calligraphic pens as well as other special items is well-known.

“We are looking for new fields where we can use our core competence” says Mr. Ledermann. “We have always been good in developing brilliant colours for different types of surfaces. Our nail lacquer is extremely shiny, easy to apply, dries quickly and lasts a long time. Our strategy 2020 is based on a Jack Welsh Slogan: Change before you have to.”
