Innovation for hair ‘Made in Germany’

EXONDA is an exclusive manufacturer of professional hairdressing equipment. Until eight years ago, the company was part of the Ondal Group, which was then owned by Wella.

“In 2007, Ondal was acquired by the Findos investment company based in Munich,” explains Managing Partner Alfred Isaacs, who took over the hairdressing equipment supplier in a management buyout in 2012, together with two partners. “Today, we are an independent business specialized in high-quality, professional dryer hoods and infrared heaters as well as clippers and trimmers.”

In 2011, EXONDA launched its own, patented hair clippers which are designed to perfectly meet the needs of professional hairdressers. The lightweight clippers provide precise cutting power, long battery life and easy handling. The company’s dryer hoods are the perfect solution for quick and gentle hair drying. The high-quality hoods feature as many as ten different temperature levels and a unique, environment-friendly, energy-saving aero recycling system which reuses the preheated air.

EXONDA’s infrared heaters are available with and without a fan. The heaters are used for perm, colour and highlighting treatments and can be adapted easily to the individual customer’s requirements.

“Our products are among the best currently available,” says Mr. Isaacs. “They are exceptionally reliable and durable, at maximum performance and minimum energy consumption. We have a large customer in the Netherlands that uses four generations of our equipment. The new devices have just been added to the existing ones, which still work fine.”

All EXONDA products are distributed exclusively through hairdressing equipment wholesalers and well-known hairdressing supplies brands such as Procter & Gamble and Wella.

“As an original equipment manufacturer, we supply leading manufacturers and wholesalers of hairdressing supplies in Europe, North America and Asia with high-quality, custom-designed products made in Germany,” Mr. Isaacs describes the philosophy of the company.

EXONDA currently ships 60% of its equipment abroad and aims to further expand its international activities, focusing on the Middle East and Far East. The company has 45 employees and turned over 12.5 million EUR in 2014. “The goal for the current year is to achieve 5 to 8% growth as a result of continued market and product development,” states Mr. Isaacs.

EXONDA has its own research and development unit capable of designing completely customized solutions that meet the clients’ individual requirements. Customers can even have their corporate logo attached to the equipment. The research and development division also designs its own new, innovative solutions such as patented hair clippers with LED lighting.

“The lighting is very focused and ideal for specific treatments such as dressing dark hair,” explains Mr. Isaacs. “Our objective is to launch one or two new products every year and become the innovation leader within the next five years.”

As a medium-sized, owner-managed enterprise, EXONDA offers its customers a unique benefit. “We have the flexibility to start with small order batches and grow together with the customer,” says Mr. Isaacs. “In addition, we have the experience and development know-how to realize the most individual customer demands.”

EXONDA operates in a market with fierce competition and many larger suppliers. Nevertheless, the company is confident it will succeed in further expanding its position in the professional hairdressing sector.

“We are a David surrounded by lots of Goliaths,” Mr. Isaacs describes the market environment. “But we have a strong, motivated team that shares a culture of innovative thinking, entrepreneurial spirit and open communication.”
