The Fleischer’s have long been hoteliers. The family established the first hotel in Voss in 1835. The founder was was Theodor Georg von Schlanbusch. His daughter, Magdalene, became the first hostess of Fleischer’s Hotel in 1864, marrying Fredrik Fleischer, who established Fleischer’s Hotel.

Today’s hosts are the fifth generation at Fleischer’s Hotel and the sixth generation in Voss. They are at the helm and have helped make the hotel the best yet. From the moment the structure comes into view, guests are treated to an architectural wonder in white.

Stepping into the lobby, holidaymakers and business travellers are greeted by plush furniture and beautiful woodwork. The main part of the hotel has 110 rooms, each offering different styles, such as historical, contempory and Swissstyle, accompanied by varying outdoor scenery.

The second building, just 100 m from the first, is outfitted with 30 rooms that function more as small apartments. “Each has a kitchenette, a private terrace with a lake view, private parking, and some rooms are pet friendly,” adds Alette Hjelmeland, Marketing Directo

When guests have settled in, they can pop down to the main area of the hotel and choose from one of four dining venues. In the à la carte restaurant Seckman, named after the first Fleischer who came to Voss from Denmark in 1750, visitors have the opportunity to experience fine dining.

Here, people can enjoy a three, four, five or even the Chef’s Choice seven-course menu. Fleischer’s second restaurant is Magdalene. Here, hungry patrons can find a menu or a buffet that features internationally inspired, contemporary and classic food.

“The restaurant also offers traditional dishes from the regional cuisine, and our kitchen focuses on using locally sourced products,” says Ms. Hjelmeland. For those with a lighter appetite, the third option is Fredrik’s Bar. Those staying at the hotel can mingle with locals, meet up with the rest of their party to have a drink or simply socialize in a friendly environment.

Finally, from April to September, guests can eat on the terrace. The terrace faces the Vangsvatnet lake and the mountains Gråsida and Sonvesåsen to the south, and Horndalsnuten to the east. The view alone gives restaurant goers a breathtaking experience.

However, visitors to the hotel want to do more than sleep and eat. Fleischer’s is located in the center of the city, just steps from the train station. “If you are here to enjoy skiing in the winter time, the ski bus to Myrkdalen ski resort stops right outside the hotel,” states Ms. Hjelmeland.

However, the new gondola Voss Gondol will take you to the slopes in Voss Resort within five to eight minutes – from the train station, just 30 meters from the hotel entrance. In addition, the Bergensbane line from Oslo to Bergen stops just behind the hotel.

From Oslo, it is five hours by train to Voss, from Bergen it is one hour. The city of Voss is located in the heart of the fjords. The city has activities to enjoy in every season including, hiking, fishing, rafting, skiing, festivals of all kinds and more.

Voss Gondol opened in 2019 and brings people behind the mountain so they can enjoy the views from the top. There’s so much choice that it can often seem overwhelming. Have no fear, Fleischer is here to help. The knowledgeable staff will gladly plan and book activities for visitors, whether they want a calm, relaxing holiday or an active, adventurous one.

If relaxation and getting away from it all is what a guest is after, the hotel provides a swimming pool, children’s pool, jacuzzi, sauna, solarium and gym free of charge. For business travelers, Fleischer’s has conference facilities that can hold up to 240 people and all rooms are outfitted with modern technological aids.

“We offer conference packages with everything included, and we also offer packages for both day and evening meetings,” explains Ms. Hjelmeland. The hotel plans exciting team-building activities as well, if business guests wish to participate in them.

Events are also a specialty of Fleischer’s. Banquet facilities of various sizes can hold up to 250 people, making the hotel the perfect spot for weddings, anniversaries, Christmas parties and more. Seasonal events hosted by the hotel include Christmas and New Year.

During the holidays, guests can eat traditional meals, enjoy an old-fashioned sleigh ride, dance the night away, listen to Christmas carols and participate in many more festive activities. Regardless of what visitors want to do, at Fleischer’s you are family. Expect to be treated to a guided tour of Voss, hear the story of the hotel and feel as welcome as possible.

Looking ahead, the hotel wants to focus even more on being environmentally sustainable. Certified Eco-lighthouse in 2013 and just renewed, the business does its best to minimize its carbon footprint. “We want to re-do the entrance to make it more accessible, continue treating our guests as family and maintain the hotel for the next generation,” sums up Ms. Hjelmeland. Book today and get ready for an unforgettable time at the historic Fleischer’s Hotel.
