An expert partner for skincare


From the initial product idea to delivery of the finished product, GEWO does everything in-house according to the individual needs of its customers. The company is not only an expert when it comes to baby care products but also uses its experience and knowledge for the development and production of natural cosmetics, which also have to fulfil high standards.

“We have developed and manufactured more than 40 products, which have been tested with very good results by ÖkoTest,” says Managing Director Timo Renz. “The regulations go more and more towards the standards of pharmaceutical products and we have the competence and the manufacturing equipment to meet the demands of the market.”

GEWO can look back on more than 60 years of history. The company was founded in 1950 as a contract filling company for cosmetics in Baden-Baden as a subsidiary of the Swiss Geistlich Group. In the course of the years, the service range was continuously expanded to meet the growing demands of its customers.

In 1996 GEWO entered the baby care market, supplying several major brands, and has become an expert for high-quality cosmetics with a focus on sensitive skin. Today, the company offers development, production and filling as a contract manufacturer under one roof. The firm is still a member of the Geistlich Group, a Swiss family-run pharmaceuticals holding company, which was founded in Zurich in 1851.

Renowned cosmetic brands, drugstore chains and the retail sector rely on the expertise and knowledge of GEWO. “Our customers appreciate our speed and flexibility throughout the entire process chain,” states Mr. Renz. “We have a very lean organization, which gives us the possibility to make an offer within 48 hours and launch a new product very quickly. In contrast to big brands, who need between twelve and 24 months to launch a new product, we only need six months from the idea to the market introduction.”

For more than 20 years now, the core competence of GEWO has been baby care products such as oils, emulsions and surfactants free from paraffin, preservatives or polyethylene glycols, and the company has been manufacturing baby oils, shampoos, cleansing gels, barrier creams, face creams, body lotions or baby baths.

Today, GEWO is one of the leading producers of baby care for the private label market in Germany. Based on these skills, the firm aims to become more active in the sector of skin care products for adults.

Today, about 20% of the overall volume is realized in the area of cosmetic products for adults. “We see a lot of potential in this sector and will take more advantage of it,” points out Mr. Renz. “In the last twelve months, we have also started to become active in the natural cosmetics division, offering production and filling. However, we plan to also provide new formulas to our customers in the natural cosmetics sector based on our expertise when it comes to demanding formulations.”

The company has constantly invested in its production and state-of-the-art machinery, to be able to fulfil the growing demands of its clients. Convincing them with their speed, reliability and flexibility, the German cosmetics specialist has established long-term relationships with cosmetic brands, drugstore chains and the retail sector.

GEWO has become known beyond the borders of Germany and also plans to increase its export business, for instance, with projects in Russia, Iran and China. “With our new directions and mainstays we will keep on conquering the market,” forecasts the Managing Director. “Our aim is to become an expert partner for gentle skincare for all age groups.”
