With more than 130 years of experience in the wine and spirits industry, Gruppo Bertolaso has the knowledge to produce machines that really meet the demands of its customers.
“We are very specialized in the winemaking and spirits sector,” says General Manager Roberto Tagliaferri. “We are able to meet the challenges regarding the technical processes and also convince our customers with our flexibility. We do not offer standard production lines, but customize every machine according to the requirements of each client.”
The company was founded in 1880 in Zimella by Eng. Bortolo Bertolaso, who wanted to support the agricultural and winemaking sectors with new developments and inventions such as pumps for grapes. In 1906, the company launched its first patented machine on the market, which was able to seal the bottles with corks.
Many new production plants with different innovative features were developed, and the name Bertolaso became an indispensable partner to the wine and spirits industry in Italy. The systems and machines have been developed over the years, and the bottling expert has continuously invested in new technologies.
“We do not want to stand still but always be one step ahead of our competitors,” points out Mr. Tagliaferri, who now works together with the fourth generation of the Bertolaso family. “Today, we are able to offer complete solutions to our customers. We offer not only bottling machines but complete production lines, including packaging solutions.”
Bertolaso is the undisputed market leader when it comes to bottling systems for wines. Over the years, the firm has revolutionized the processes in the industry with innovative technologies, such as filling sparkling wine at ambient temperature.
The company has recently developed a production line able to fill 750 ml wine bottles up to 36,000 bottles per hour, which is the fastest machine for wine on the market. Today, the bottling lines are completely automated, while the machines can be operated intuitively and simply with reduced setup times for changeover.
The reliability and durability of the machines and plants are also outstanding in the market. “Our solutions are characterized by their high quality and efficiency,” explains the General Manager. “They are based on a modular system that can be customized according to the individual needs of our clients. We are able to work with different technologies, for instance, when it comes to the filling or cleaning of the bottles. We have been active in the niche markets of winemaking and spirits for more than 130 years and know about the various demands of our potential customers.”
Bertolaso also works closely together with the university to keep up with the latest technologies and to stay ahead of its competitors. Due to its experience and extensive knowledge, Bertolaso has attracted the attention of international producers of wines and spirits around the globe.
Step by step, the company, which has 210 employees and an annual turnover of 50 million EUR, has expanded into new markets, providing its solutions to customers in the USA, China, Chile, Argentina, Scotland, France, Spain, Russia and Central America, among others.
In addition to its core business of wine and spirits, the company also offers bottling solutions for other beverages such as beer, juices or water. Gruppo Bertolaso is present at different trade fairs, for example, Drinktec in Munich, to present its machines and to establish contacts with new customers and to maintain relations with existing clients.
“Diversification is important to create a healthy balance between the different markets, but the wine and spirit industry will remain our core business,” says Mr. Tagliaferri. “We are very specialized in this niche market and are always working on new technologies and processes to increase the added value for our customers. The wine industry is developing really well and has been growing steadily over the years. We have accompanied the producers in Italy for decades and contributed to their success and the development of the entire industry. This is what we are good at, and we will keep on working on new solutions.”
