“We have been well established in Frankfurt for more than 50 years,” says Martin Driskell, General Manager at the InterContinental® Frankfurt. Having worked at InterContinental Hotels and Resorts since 1994, Martin Driskell was appointed General Manager of the Frankfurt hotel in 2013.
“In 1963, InterContinental Hotels and Resorts established the hotel in Frankfurt. At the time it had over 800 rooms in two buildings. In 2012, one of the buildings was sold. So today, we have 467 guest rooms, 19 meeting rooms, a fitness center and a parking lot with space for 550 cars.”
The hotel offers standard rooms as well as executive rooms and suites. With their timeless elegance and bright, warm colours, the rooms provide a welcoming atmosphere.
“The executive rooms and suites are located on the 19th and 20th floors,” explains Mr. Driskell. “They all provide a breathtaking view of the city, the river or the skyline.“
The General Manager is proud of the highly acclaimed cuisine of the hotel. “At our Signatures Veranda Restaurant guests enjoy exquisite New German Cuisine perfectly created by our Chef de Cuisine Klaus Bramkamp and his international team,” states Mr. Driskell. “All dishes are made from carefully selected high-quality ingredients, mostly sourced in the region of Hesse. The team also creates international dishes. Whatever the country or the region, we provide authentic dishes. For example, if we have guests from an Indian airline, they get Indian dishes daily. We also offer kosher dishes, as well as vegetarian and vegan cuisine. Our regular Sunday brunch is a major attraction for our guests, and customers from the region.”
Outside catering is another service highly appreciated by customers. “We do not promote our Catering’s Best by InterContinental, we are well known and customers ask for us,” says the General Manager. “We have a lot of regular customers mainly from the region, but also beyond. For example, we provided catering services as far away as Moscow and Budapest.”
Most guests are business guests and the InterContinental® Frankfurt is well-equipped to cater to their needs. The hotel has 19 meeting rooms, equipped with latest light and sound technology.
The rooms can be used flexibly to accommodate up to 700 people. “We organize all sorts of business and private events as well as business meetings,” underlines Mr. Driskell. “For example, we are the leading hotel for the ‘Iron Man’ event.”
The hotel has 240 staff members and generates a yearly turnover of 28 million EUR. “Our staff is our major asset and we show our employees that they are important. They are the face of the hotel. We are part of a chain of 5,000 hotels, so we also get talent from abroad. Our guests come from all across the globe, many from Arabic countries, where we are well known as we have 50 hotels in the region. We also have guests from Europe, the USA and the Far East. Many of our guests are regular guests including a number of VIPs who come back time and time again. Backed by the new parent company, Katara Hospitality, who own a rich portfolio of properties in the luxury segment, we have a lot of plans for 2016. We are planning guest surveys to further increase the satisfaction of our guests and increased activities in social media, a very important marketing tool. Frankfurt is a dynamic market and we compete as before by individual service providing a special experience for guests.”
