“Our talented and committed workforce is one of the most valuable things we have to offer,” says Frank Ambos, manager and owner. “Another is our comprehensive stock of specialised equipment, which boasts up-to-date technology and machines we developed ourselves.” The company focuses on radiation protection and processing radioactive waste and other dangerous materials.

“Our services are rather unusual, and we only have around 20 competitors in Germany and Italy,” Mr. Ambos says. “Still, we are in the top ten in both markets. And we are always devising new services in our field.” Whether it is decontaminating a location, dismantling a plant, disposing of waste or protecting personnel, sat. Kerntechnik has the tools to ensure a thorough job. Beyond handson tasks, sat. Kerntechnik also offers consulting for customised, technologically novel solutions.

Founded in 2002 by Mr. Ambos and Christian Gutland, who remain its owners, the company today has about 100 employees and annual turnover of about ten million EUR. Clients include the energy giants Eon, RWE, EnBW and EdF, as well as Siemens, Areva, Obayashi and the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre.

sat. Kerntechnik has offices in Karlsruhe, Karlstein and Hamburg, and affiliates in Yutz, France, and Angera, Italy – two particularly important markets. “We are looking to add more foreign business, which is one third of our income,” Mr. Ambos says.

The company promotes itself by participating in industry events such as the Annual Meeting on Nuclear Technology in Stuttgart and the Annual Waste Management Conference in Phoenix, USA.

Mr. Ambos is confident that sat. Kerntechnik will see stable growth for years to come. “Dismantling nuclear facilities, processing radioactive waste in particular, will only increase,” he says. “All the trends in the market point to more and more jobs for our outstanding experts.”
