Going the extra mile has been SPGroup’s motto since the beginning. The Spanish group has existed under the name Plastienvase since 1985. It acquired the factory in Arras, northern France, from Alcan Plastic in 2009 as a manufacturing base from which to serve the Northern European market.
“We specialize in the manufacture and printing of flexible plastic films for use in food wrapping,” summarizes President Francisco Bernal. “Our product range extends to nearly all of the flexible packaging that can be seen today in supermarkets covering products such as vegetables, frozen meals, snacks, confectionary products, sliced cheese and meats as well as much more.”
The company offers both flexography and rotogravure printing techniques as well as lamination and coextrusion. The printed or plain plastic film is supplied to customers in rolls and can thus be easily integrated in their packaging lines. The company also produces thermoforming film for semi-rigid trays.
Total annual production at its three production sites amounts to 40,000 t, generating turnover of 106 million EUR in 2012. The food industry is the company’s main customer group, accounting for 85% of sales, but the company’s films are also supplied to customers in the pharmaceutical and automotive sectors.
“Through our geographical presence, we are particularly strong in the French and Spanish markets, but we also sell in Scandinavia, Germany, Belgium and Central Africa,” says Mr. Bernal. “Increasing exports is one of our targets for the future. We have already established useful contacts in Algeria and will also be targeting the UK and the rest of Africa.”
SPGroup has created a solid basis from which to launch its growth plans for the future. Recent investment in new machinery and certification to a host of quality standards including ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001 as well as BRC, for which it obtained the top grading A, are the customer’s guarantee of quality.
“We work with a number of major customers who are household names in the industry and appreciate our high level of customer service,” insists Mr. Bernal. “We focus fully on meeting their needs regarding quality and delivery schedules and even accompany them through the development stages of new packaging products. We will continue to invest in quality and innovation to ensure that we can meet our customers’ needs in the future and safeguard our competitive advantage.”
