Telerob is specialized in a high-tech niche market: solutions for handling dangerous tasks from a safe distance. The owner-managed company develops, produces and markets remote-controlled robots that are used for security, emergency, military, industrial and research applications worldwide.
The telemax family includes five individual robots designed for individual applications and a wide choice of interchangeable accessories. The big brother is tEODor, a strong and powerful Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) robot, and its successor, the new tEODor EVO, which comes with the latest radio and camera technology and a highly innovative operating concept.
The comprehensive product range is rounded off by different service vehicles used as mobile operation centers and complete system solutions for preventing and fighting all kinds of criminal and terrorist attacks. “Telerob was created in 1994, based on the SMF heavy manipulator vehicle development project of the nuclear power plant operators in Germany in 1988,” explains Managing Director Thomas Biehne.
The same year, Telerob set up a sales and service operation in the United States. “The US subsidiary has been established to supply the US military and other major customers in North America,” explains Mr. Biehne. Headquartered in Ostfildern near Stuttgart, the successful, medium-sized enterprise employs 80 people and turns over 20 to 30 million EUR.

Telerob ships about 50% of its robots to military customers across the globe. Other major customers include law enforcement authorities and the oil and gas industry.
“We have over 1,000 robots in operation all over the world today,” says Mr. Biehne. “We are the global technology leader.” All robots are designed to offer maximum quality and reliability. “Our robots perform reliably for at least ten years almost without any maintenance,” states Mr. Biehne. “We have robots in operation that have never needed maintenance or repair services. The majority of our customers are drawn from the military and the police. Premium quality and reliability are therefore an absolute must.”
The mobile robots can be remote-controlled from a distance of 1,000 m and more to provide maximum safety under all circumstances. Telerob is constantly developing its solutions further. According to Mr. Biehne, the company’s most important unit is the development department with 18 staff members: “Besides electrical engineering, we are an electronics and software company. Electronics and software are nowadays the centerpiece of every robot.”
An example for the company’s innovativeness is the new tEODor EVO robot featuring a brand-new operating concept, called Robo Command, which allows the user to intuitively operate the robot and focus entirely on the task ahead. With the global increase in terrorist threat, Telerob is operating in a high-growth market. At the same time, the company’s robots are used for a growing range of civil applications, such as disaster control, or industrial applications like the automatic removal of concrete surfaces. “We have more than 25 years of industry experience and technological expertise and want to continue expanding worldwide, in military and civil applications,” concludes Mr. Biehne.
