A better life for animals


Organic pet food by Yarrah is not only better for pets, but also better for all animals. “We offer the purest pet food you can find on the market,” says CEO Bas van Tongeren. “We source our ingredients ourselves from like-minded farmers and livestock breeders who allow their animals to live a better life. We use only certified organic meat and vegetables. Our recipes are clean and pure free from any synthetic or unnecessary additives.”

The company was founded in 1992 at a time when nobody talked or thought about organic. From the beginning, Yarrah has believed in 100% pure and natural food made of chicken, beef or turkey that is free of chemical antioxidants, artificial aromas, colourings and flavourings, refined sugars and genetically modified ingredients.

In 2015, Yarrah was awarded the Better Life Quality Mark certification by the Dutch Society for the Protection of Animals with a maximum three-star rating. In addition, it holds the EU organic certificate as well as the relevant local organic certificates in France and Germany, its leading markets.

Over the years, new products such as vegetarian dog food were added to the portfolio, and the firm has steadily expanded into new markets. Today, the organic food for cats and dogs is sold to 17 countries within Europe.

Yarrah Organic Pet Food has strong distribution in the organic retail channel throughout Europe and also sees its products in innovative pet retail.

“We have seen a huge change in growth as organic retailers truly embrace organic pet food with the discovery of its potential. One in three shoppers has a cat or a dog, and we know from cash receipt analyses that when a pet product is in the basket, the total basket spend is almost twice the average spend per trip,” states Mr. van Tongeren. “In addition to this growth, we see pet specialty retail picking up on the trend, partnering with us to lead the segment. They are following what has already happened in conventional retail: Organic produce has become a significant and growing part of the consumer basket. We cover the full spectrum of consumer needs, from dry and wet food to snacks for both cats and dogs. Simple, pure, robust. We put our hearts and souls into the product, and it’s rewarding to hear from people that their dogs and cats are thriving on our products. And if we improve the lives of all animals in doing so, even better. The growth we see is the reward. We believe in doing well by doing good.”
