Planning with Power
Interview with Dipl.-Ing. Robert Hecke, Managing Director of Engineering Office Rüdiger Jockwer GmbH
For over 30 years, the Berlin-based Engineering Office Rüdiger Jockwer GmbH has stood for demanding engineering services in construction – with a focus on structural design and refurbishment of old buildings. Under the leadership of Dipl.-Ing. Robert Hecke and Christian Schwanz, the office has demonstrated what flexibility, team spirit, and quality standards can achieve, even in times of crisis.
At the beginning of 2022, Dipl.-Ing. Robert Hecke and M. Eng. Christian Schwanz took over the management of the engineering office Rüdiger Jockwer, in the midst of a crisis period. The associated downturn in residential construction hit the company hard: projects were stopped, and inquiries dried up. The office responded quickly, focusing more on refurbishing existing structures and smaller projects – with success. The workforce was retained, and new orders came in through framework contracts and targeted tenders.
Quality Meets Flexibility
With 80 employees and an annual turnover of about 6.5 million EUR, the office is now one of the larger ones in Berlin-Brandenburg. This size allows for high flexibility, whether in spontaneous emergencies or the short-term restructuring of project teams. "Our strength lies in the short paths and quick response," explains Robert Hecke. The company impresses with both large-scale projects and in the detailed area of renovation.
Strategic Brand Transformation
In 2024, the office invested in a comprehensive brand relaunch despite a tense market situation. Old values, new look, new website, stronger presence on social media, a consistent step towards the future. The message: efficient, professional, committed – with the goal of being perceived as an approachable service provider with 30 years of experience and thus distinguishing itself from the competition.
Digital and Sustainable Setup
The engineering office Rüdiger Jockwer has consistently invested in digitalization over the past years: structural analysis, accounting, and project management are now largely automated and supported by software, even artificial intelligence supports internal processes. At the same time, sustainability remains a central focus. The office is engaged in sustainable and circular building and increasingly relies on Building Information Modeling (BIM). Despite the shortage of skilled workers, the issue is being advanced through targeted training and sustainable project work.
Projects and Perspectives
Reference projects such as Bötzow Brewery, Franz-Mehring-Platz, or Forum Museumsinsel are exemplary for the broad range of services, from historic restoration to sustainable new construction. This success is supported by a motivated team and a leadership that contributes with commitment and enthusiasm. "I love my job, and our team is the engine of our success," emphasizes Robert Hecke. Expertise, commitment, and humanity are the foundation for the further path.
