Whether in the financial world or in industry – complex calculations must be performed in real time today. uni software plus GmbH specializes in this: It combines computer science, mathematics, and physics into solutions that are complex in the background but seem simple to the user. Managing Director Michael Aichinger explains how the company became an innovation partner and why stable teams and research offer central advantages.

The roots of uni software plus GmbH lie in the distribution of Wolfram products – initially, this was even its main business. Today, the company remains an official reseller, working with clients such as the Fraunhofer Society or leading universities in Germany and Austria. In parallel, it evolved into a specialist for complex software solutions. Its unique selling point: the combination of informatics, mathematics, and physics along with covering the entire process chain – from data collection through modeling to the presentation of results. "With us, it's not a patchwork, everything is seamless," emphasizes Michael Aichinger. How this looks in practice is demonstrated by a typical project in Switzerland: A bank client wants to adjust its portfolio. It is regulated that the risk profile must be recalculated immediately. To this end, thousands of instruments ready to be calibrated overnight are stored in the Google Cloud in Zurich and deposited in a cache. In the consultation, these data are aggregated live. Thus, the consultant immediately sees how the key figures change – for the client, it is the push of a button, while in the background there is a highly complex architecture of simulations, differential equations, and matrix operations.

Research, Structure, and Cost Strategy

The team's exceptional stability is highly valued. Turnover is minimal, and many employees accompany client projects over years – a pillar of trust that stands out in a dynamic market. At the same time, the executive management actively promotes scientific work: Publications in professional journals are expressly desired and contribute to the further development of products. Research is thus not a sideline, but part of the DNA. The international structure is also deliberately chosen. "Standard software development is scarcely feasible in the DACH region anymore because customers cannot pass on increasing costs anymore," explains Michael Aichinger. The response to this: hybrid teams and additional locations. They ensure expertise and keep costs under control – a balancing act that is necessary to remain competitive.

Innovation and International Competitiveness

Strategically, uni software plus GmbH continues to focus on two core business areas: industry and finance. While the industry in the DACH region is under massive cost pressure, the finance sector, especially in Switzerland, is a clear growth market. At the same time, innovation remains the key: In the future, Large Language Models and Machine Learning processes should selectively enhance traditional modeling. Also, it is essential to keep an eye on international competition. "If we don't stay efficient and innovative, we run the risk of being priced out of the market," says Michael Aichinger. To prevent this, the company relies on its core strengths – interdisciplinary competence, seamless solutions, and a close, trustful collaboration with customers. Exchange at professional lectures and conferences is also part of this, in order to maintain dialogue with science and industry.
