EuroBLECH 2026: How AI, Automation and Sustainable Production are Changing Sheet Metal Processing

The theme of this year's edition is 'For a Stronger Future – Smart and Sustainable Production'. The fair thus focuses on technologies that are intended to make companies more productive, resilient, and resource-efficient: AI-driven processes and robotics, new laser technologies, approaches for more circular manufacturing.

AI moves into production

A main focus is on intelligent manufacturing. The conference program includes topics such as the use of AI, digital twins and simulations, as well as the networking of machines, monitoring, and manufacturing execution systems. The crucial question is no longer whether production data can be collected. More interesting is how companies use it to better utilize machines, ensure quality, or reduce unplanned downtimes. The collaboration between humans and machines, as well as practical robotics, are also central themes of the fair. For many businesses, it will be particularly relevant that automation is becoming increasingly interesting where smaller batch sizes and frequent product changes have previously set limits. What remains crucial is how easily new systems can be integrated into existing production environments.

One of the innovations for 2026 is the Innovation Zone. This curated special area is designed to bring together current technologies, practice-oriented research, and already system-ready concepts for sheet metal processing. Automation, digital production, and next-generation machines are particularly in focus. Thus, EuroBLECH creates a zone for developments that are partly still before broad market launch. For companies looking to modernize their production in the coming years, a targeted look is worthwhile: Here, one can early assess what might be ready for mass production in two or three years. A new marketplace for contract manufacturers and suppliers was also announced. It aims to bring together manufacturing plants and contract manufacturers specifically with OEMs and manufacturing companies looking for external production capacities or specialized partners.

Less Energy and Material Become Competitive Factors

Sustainability is closely linked with economic efficiency at EuroBLECH. The technical program includes energy-efficient machines and processes, material optimization, reduced scrap, recycling, and circular economy on the agenda, as well as lightweight construction and the reduction of the CO₂ footprint. Especially in metal processing, material and energy usage can constitute a significant part of production costs. Resource efficiency thus becomes not only a response to climate mandates but directly a factor for competitiveness. Visitors can also inform themselves about new thematic tours. The EuroBLECH Awards also return. Technical innovations are awarded in six categories: software solutions for Advanced Manufacturing and AI, automation and smart factory, sustainable and resource-efficient production, and technologies for cutting, forming, joining, and quality control. Through so-called Innovation Trails, visitors can specifically find and compare nominated solutions at the exhibition site. The program is complemented by a Speaker Forum with expert lectures on current developments in sheet metal processing. The conference focuses range from smarter and sustainable production to qualifications, automation, and human-machine collaboration.
