Interview with Jurand Zagorowski, Owner of ESS Zahntechnik AG
The dental technology sector is experiencing constant change, driven by technological innovations and growing customer demands. Jurand Zagorowski, the owner of ESS Zahntechnik AG, has embraced these challenges and significantly modernized the company. With extensive experience in various labs and as a department head, he is now implementing his vision of the dental technology of tomorrow.
Inspired by his mother, a dentist, Jurand Zagorowski began his career as a dental technician and later specialized in orthodontics. "She noticed that I was very skilled with my hands. After an internship, I realized that the field of dental technology suits me." After 13 years of management experience in various laboratories, Jurand Zagorowski took over the management of ESS Dental Technology AG in 2022 and fundamentally modernized the company by expanding the digital sector.
"Today, 60% of the processes are digitized, which makes us particularly attractive for younger dentists," he explains. However, the conventional, manual methods are still served, so that all customer needs can be optimally met. This openness to new technologies, including artificial intelligence, keeps the company at the cutting edge.
From Foundation to Digital Leadership in Orthodontics
After the company was founded in 1948 by Josef Ess, it was transformed into a public company in 1985. In 2018, the company specialized in orthodontics. In 2023, thanks to Jurand Zagorowski's commitment, digital orthodontics was fully expanded.
"ESS Zahntechnik AG has always had a good reputation with customers. We place great emphasis on customer loyalty and we regularly visit our customers in person," emphasizes the managing director. The company offers stable and attractive jobs, supported by the high level of expertise of the team. With five employees, who represent a good mix of young and experienced professionals, the young managing director creates a dynamic working environment.
The company is particularly known for the production of Herbst hinges and expansion devices for the treatment of dental misalignments. Thanks to digital workflows, ESS Zahntechnik AG can serve dentists throughout Switzerland.

"I really enjoy working and do it with a lot of passion and dedication," says Jurand Zagorowski. He has the vision to continuously integrate innovations and to expand the company further. "My dream is to develop the company to the extent that we also have another location," he says.
