Making Clean Footing Simple
Interview with Ralf Geggus, Managing Director and owner of fuma Hauszubehör GmbH
The fact that the products of fuma Hauszubehör GmbH are stepped on is not disrespectful but even desired. The family business, founded in 1974 in Karlsbad, Baden-Württemberg, manufactures doormats that not only clean feet but are also representative – or primarily provide safety. For 50 years now, customers have been standing on fuma mats – and the next generation is already on the starting blocks.
Entrance mats for a building are pretty much the last thing to be placed in a new construction. Customers expect reliability, quick processing of quotations, and timely delivery of goods all the more. Meeting these requirements is a matter of course for Ralf Geggus, CEO and since 1997 the sole shareholder of fuma. Fuma has been in the market for 50 years. Since then, the company with 19 employees, which produces exclusively in Germany, has also convinced its customers with its nationwide services.
Custom Mats
fuma offers a broad portfolio of entrance mats. "Our most important products are the mats with aluminum profiles. They account for 85% of our business," explains Ralf Geggus. In addition, the company provides other types of mats such as workplace mats, bath mats, and clean-off zones. Almost all mats are produced according to customer specifications. The production is as sustainable as possible: The processed aluminum is 90% recycled. Various mats have been awarded the Blue Angel certification. All can be returned. Shipping has been climate-neutral for years. And the company building, newly constructed just ten years ago, meets all modern sustainability standards. fuma delivers nationwide as well as to Austria. Through GEGGUS GmbH, the products are also internationally distributed in 30 countries. In addition to other awards, fuma has been presented the German Brand Award four times.
Family Businesses as a Driving Force
When Ralf Geggus took over the company from his father Helmut, he not only continued a family tradition but also the values of his father: "We stand for consistency and think long-term," emphasizes the 52-year-old CEO, who has been with the company for 34 years. His son Luca is also already involved in the company. Continuing the family business successfully is Ralf Geggus' personal drive. "Success drives me. And I like being with people," he explains. One of the next highlights will be the appearance at the BAU fair in Munich in January 2025. Ralf Geggus has deliberately not set long-term goals, as: "Market development is hard to predict. We tend to operate with a short-term view. A focus for us in the future will continue to be on short production times."
