Heavy Loads, Easily Moved
Interview with Florian Pöckl, Managing Director of HÖRMANN Klatt Conveyors GmbH
Modern intralogistics stands and falls with the performance of its conveyor technology. Whether pallets, parcels, or luggage - only when material flows are precisely, reliably, and efficiently organized can companies remain competitive. HÖRMANN Klatt Conveyors GmbH is one of the specialists when it comes to robust, durable, and adaptable conveyor technology. Based in Neumarkt am Wallersee, Austria, the company supplies mechanical conveying solutions across Europe - both for heavy industrial applications and complex airport logistics.
HÖRMANN Klatt Conveyors develops robust, customized conveyor technology solutions for demanding intralogistics applications across Europe – and sets new standards in automated airport security with the innovation project SECTRO. The focus is on energy efficiency, digitalization, and a clear strategic specialization. "Where standards reach their limits, our work begins," says CEO Florian Pöckl.
Robust Technology for the Highest Demands
The core business of HÖRMANN Klatt Conveyors lies in mechanical conveyor technology for pallets, containers, and luggage—with a clear quality promise: stability, durability, and technical precision. In particular, the company stands out in the field of pallet conveying due to its resilience. Conveyor solutions for up to 2 tons per pallet are standard for HÖRMANN Klatt—where other providers often work at the limits of their systems. In addition to classic applications in industry and logistics, the company is also active in hospital logistics and large-scale luggage conveyance at airports. The products are always modular in structure and can be flexibly adapted to customer-specific requirements. The standard portfolio serves as a technological base, which is modified as needed—often even at the request of larger competitors who reach the limits with their series solutions.
Innovation in the Airport Sector
A particularly ambitious project is ‘SECTRO’ – a new solution for automating and parallelizing carry-on luggage control at airports. The idea: moving away from a linear process towards a dynamic distribution of passengers across multiple simultaneous input stations. Each passenger independently chooses a drop-off kiosk, deposits their carry-on luggage there, and then proceeds through the body scanner. The luggage check is automated in the background. The goal of the project is to drastically reduce waiting times, minimize personnel deployment, and lower the number of required CT (Computed Tomography) devices – while simultaneously enhancing security. The market launch is planned for the end of 2025. Currently, a first pilot module is being set up. In cooperation with the German Beumer Group, which has a global sales and service network, SECTRO is intended to be rolled out internationally.
In addition to new developments, HÖRMANN Klatt places great emphasis on the continuous optimization of existing systems. Two issues are particularly in focus: energy efficiency and predictive maintenance. Contrary to the common use of steel roller chains, the company utilizes a low-maintenance toothed belt drive in its pallet conveyor technology – inspired by solutions from the automotive industry. This technique is not only more durable but also significantly reduces energy consumption and wear.
Specialization, Efficiency, and Clear Role Distribution
Within the HÖRMANN Group, Klatt Conveyors is part of the intra-logistics division. Instead of providing complex total systems as a general contractor, Klatt works closely with system integrators who handle control and IT. This model allows it to fully utilize its own technical expertise — while being more efficient and targeted in its actions. Internally, processes have been streamlined, responsibilities more clearly distributed, and digitalization advanced in recent years. The goal is to relieve highly qualified specialists from repetitive tasks and to involve them more in conceptual, value-adding activities — among other things, through the use of AI-supported tools and automated processes. With a mix of technical solidity, clear specialization, and innovative strength, HÖRMANN Klatt Conveyors successfully asserts itself in the international competition. The strategy: no short-term trends, but consistent development along real market needs.
