In a world that is consuming more and more resources and simultaneously battling growing garbage heaps, waste recycling is becoming increasingly important. Modern recycling processes contribute to reclaiming valuable materials, saving energy, and reducing environmental impact. Paprec Schweiz AG is today a leading player in Swiss waste recycling and data protection – and it does so with an impressive history dating back to 1896.

Under the leadership of Christophe Gence, Chairman and CEO, the company has repositioned itself over the past few years and continues to grow. 'As an engineer, I am fascinated by how we can implement material recovery with modern technology and dedicated teams,' says Christophe Gence. The Swiss, who joined Paprec ten years ago through a succession arrangement, knows the industry well and brings not only technical know-how but also a clear vision: to conserve resources and to strengthen the circular economy sustainably.
The numbers speak for themselves: About 700 employees work at 22 locations in Switzerland, and across Europe, the Paprec Group employs more than 16,000 people. In addition to traditional recycling services for bulky waste, metals, plastics, or paper, Paprec also offers certified destruction of files and data carriers, which helps companies to comply safely with legal data protection regulations.

Sustainable, Regional, Forward-Looking

Paprec is continuously investing in new technologies and facilities. By 2027, a 10,000 m2 plant for sorting paper and cardboard will be established in Basel. Simultaneously, the expansion of sorting facilities for bulky waste is proceeding in Geneva, Lucerne, and Zurich. But that's not all: "In the long term, we also aim to implement energy recovery in Switzerland, similar to other European countries in our group," explains Christophe Gence. To this end, partnerships with cantons are being sought.
Sustainability is a central element of the company philosophy. Paprec exclusively sources CO2-neutral electricity from hydroelectric power plants, relies on bio-diesel and electric trucks, and has recently been awarded the EcoVadis certification. Moreover, the company regularly organizes tours for children and interested parties to raise awareness about recycling and resource conservation.
"We are large, but at the same time agile and family-run. This makes us strong and flexible," emphasizes the CEO. The family-like structures allow for quick decisions and investments in forward-looking projects. The employees also benefit: Each year, Paprec recognizes the 40 best employees worldwide with the ‘Golden Beaver’ award – a special recognition that is rewarded with a world trip.
With this commitment, innovative spirit, and a clear strategy, Paprec Switzerland aims to expand its position and significantly shape the industry. Or as Christophe Gence sums it up: "Our task is to conserve resources and secure a sustainable future with modern solutions."
