"We want to be flexible and approachable!"

Interview with Eva Hackmann, Managing Director, and Mathias Escher, Managing Director of ES-HA-ES Anlagensteuerungen Automatisierungstechnik GmbH

In-house expertise: The software is written in-house

Small but exquisite. This is how ES-HA-ES Anlagensteuerungen Automatisierungstechnik GmbH can be described. The family-run company from Osnabrück has many regular customers who appreciate the quality and reliability. Although the company wants to maintain its size, new employees are still being sought to continue providing quality and service to customers in the future.

"We are reliable and offer a high level of quality," states Mathias Escher, Managing Director of ES-HA-ES Anlagensteuerungen Automatisierungstechnik GmbH, as reasons why customers like working with the company. "Moreover, we program our systems as simply as possible and provide all software and wiring diagrams, so that the customer has the opportunity to help themselves. We are consciously a small company because we want to be flexible and approachable." "We take our customers seriously and also accommodate special requests," adds Eva Hackmann, also Managing Director.

Customers from the Region

Control cabinet construction, installation, PLC programming, visualization, commissioning as well as plant retrofits and service are services that customers can expect from the team at ES-HA-ES. "Our classic interface is the terminal strip in the control cabinet," explains Mathias Escher. "Here, we work closely with the mechanical engineers. So, we are service providers together with the mechanical engineers for our customers. The mechanical engineer takes care of the mechanical part, we handle the electrical engineering and electronics. The issue of machine safety and CE conformity is also increasingly being demanded; at this point, we also support in cooperation with professional partners. About 80% of the orders come from customers within a 100 km radius around Osnabrück, for example from BASF in Lemförde or from Coppenrath & Wiese in Mettingen. 15% of customers are from all over Germany and 5% from around the world. More and more customers today are taking advantage of digitization, as about 70% of them now rely on remote maintenance for time and cost benefits.

Monthly Breakfast

In 1988, Hubert and Clemens Escher, together with Rolf Hackmann, founded the company. Initially, the focus was on industrial transport solutions, later on special machine construction. In 2022, the company was handed over to the founders' children. Along with Eva Hackmann and Mathias Escher, André Escher is also the managing director of the business with twelve employees and an annual turnover between 1 and 2 million EUR. "We have been reliably there for our customers for 36 years," says Eva Hackmann, pointing out that new orders are mostly gained through recommendations from satisfied regular customers. For more than 20 years, ES-HA-ES has been committed to sustainability. For instance, a then-large 34-kWp photovoltaic system was installed on the roof of the company building in 2002, followed by a 50-kWp test system on the north side this year. Company cars with electric drives, as well as photovoltaic systems and battery storage installed for customers, reflect the ecological awareness. The company, which is 100% family-owned, also maintains a familial atmosphere internally. Eva Hackmann: "Once a month we have breakfast together and exchange ideas. Employees can also come to us with personal concerns." "We would like to continue the company as a family business permanently and also like to hire some more employees," explains Mathias Escher. "We are also always open to internships and final theses from students and technicians."
