The New Intelligence of Mobility
Interview with Dr. Jürgen Weber, Managing Director of CarByte Technology Group GmbH
Whether it's the automotive industry, agricultural machinery, or medical technology – CarByte Technology Group GmbH supports the digital transformation of complex systems from the cloud to the control unit. In a short time, the company has become a sought-after technology partner that combines mechanics, electronics, and software. Managing Director Jürgen Weber talks about growing expertise and new markets and explains why networking and team spirit will shape the mobility of the future.
Wirtschaftsforum: Mr. Weber, CarByte Technology Group was founded in 2021 and has grown rapidly. Can you tell us about the origins of the company – and what have been its main milestones?
Jürgen Weber: We are not a typical startup, but a collective of experienced experts from telecommunications and IT consulting. After my time at Alcatel and MHP, a Porsche subsidiary, we wanted to pool our knowledge from the connected car world and cover the entire digital value chain. Five founders built CarByte from scratch – we started in 2021 with seven employees, by the end of 2022 there were over 80, and today we have about 220, including many students we have taken on. The revenue stands at approximately 25 million EUR. Since the beginning of 2025, we operate as CarByte Technology Group with subsidiaries CarByte and CarByte Engineering.
Wirtschaftsforum: What is the core business of CarByte, and what services do you offer?
Jürgen Weber: We connect technical systems and develop software that intelligently connects vehicles, machines, or devices with the cloud. Originally coming from the automotive sector – such as emergency call systems, connectivity modules, or app services – we now also work with agricultural machinery manufacturers, robotics and energy companies, or players from the healthcare sector. The group's headquarters are located in Rülzheim; in addition, there is a cybersecurity hub in Bochum and university collaborations in Ulm and Berlin – important for knowledge transfer are good networks and companies with which we can work on innovations or new technologies.
Wirtschaftsforum: What distinguishes you from other technology partners?
Jürgen Weber: Our strength lies in end-to-end expertise. We cover the entire chain – from the app to the cloud to the control unit. Many specialize in specific areas, but we connect them. Our interdisciplinary competence centers work without silos, which makes us quick and flexible. We have an exceptionally experienced team – many colleagues have been with us for decades. This knowledge cannot be replaced by any technology.
Wirtschaftsforum: In your industry, digitalization, AI, and cybersecurity are key issues. How are you responding to this?
Jürgen Weber: Artificial Intelligence plays an increasing role - for example in data evaluation, testing, or simulations. We operate our own security hubs and conduct penetration tests - protection from external and internal attacks is an integral part of every solution. We combine AI with our connectivity expertise to enable new applications such as predictive maintenance or automated control processes. The close integration of software development, security, and cloud architecture provides real added value to our customers.
Wirtschaftsforum: Many companies complain about a shortage of skilled workers - you do not. How do you manage to attract and retain talent?
Jürgen Weber: We focus on developing our own talent rather than facing a skills shortage. Through collaborations with universities, we attract early talent who benefit from the knowledge of experienced colleagues. Flat hierarchies and a lot of personal responsibility ensure motivation. Anyone with ideas can implement them - regardless of title or age. This strengthens cohesion and identification. Through the university partnerships in Ulm in Data Analytics, in Bochum in Cyber Security, and in Berlin at the CODE University of Applied Sciences, we bring students into the team early and regularly hire them permanently.
Wirtschaftsforum: Where should CarByte Technology develop in the coming years?
Jürgen Weber: We want to continue to grow - controlled and with a clear focus. The connection of AI, connectivity, and mobile technology opens up enormous potentials, not only in vehicles but also in energy, mobility, and medical technology. We invest specifically in new topics and in our teams. At the same time, we keep a close watch on the global market - especially the dynamics in China and the USA. New manufacturers bring impulses but often still face regulatory hurdles in Europe. For us, this creates opportunities because the big OEMs continue to invest in development and networking despite profit declines. In a changing market, we rely on continuity, cohesion, and innovation - and that is exactly our claim at CarByte.
