As digitalization accelerates across Europe, cybersecurity has moved from being an IT concern to a board-level priority. Artificial intelligence, remote infrastructures and increasingly complex data flows offer enormous productivity gains – but they also multiply risk. In this environment, organizations need more than software. They need engineering expertise, strategic foresight and operational excellence. Nomios Italy S.p.A., headquartered in Rome, has positioned itself precisely at this intersection, combining technological depth with strategic advisory expertise.

European Business: Mr. Marsella, Nomios Italy has undergone significant change in recent years. What defines the company today?

Paolo Marsella: Nomios Italy is the result of a transformation. I founded the company in 2004 under the name Aditinet Consulting. Since June 2025, we have been part of the European Nomios Group and operate as Nomios Italy S.p.A. We share the same mission across the group: we focus on network security and cybersecurity for large enterprises and public institutions. While each country organization operates independently in its market, we are united by a common strategy and technical focus.

European Business: How would you describe your core business?

Paolo Marsella: The overarching theme is network security. We design and implement enterprise data networks and cybersecurity architectures. Over the years, cybersecurity has become increasingly dominant and today accounts for around 70% of our turnover. We are essentially an engineering company. We design protection systems, integrate leading third-party technologies and provide a comprehensive range of services – from consulting and implementation to 24/7 maintenance and managed services through our Network Operations Center and Security Operations Center.

European Business: Who are your main customers?

Paolo Marsella: We operate exclusively in the B2B segment and focus on the upper end of the market. In the private sector, our clients include major Italian banks, utilities such as airports and motorway operators, and companies in the gas, water and transport sectors. We also work with leading universities and large manufacturing companies. In the public sector, we support central institutions such as ministries and national authorities, as well as regional administrations. In total, we serve around 300 major clients across Italy.

European Business: What differentiates Nomios Italy from competitors in such a demanding market?

Paolo Marsella: The key differentiator is execution. We combine best-in-class technologies – often from American and Israeli vendors – with highly specialized engineers who are able to implement and manage these systems effectively. Cybersecurity is not just about buying a product; it is about designing an architecture and operating it correctly 24/7. Our ability to deliver projects reliably and to provide continuous monitoring and governance through our NOC and SOC services sets us apart. We also constantly review emerging technologies to stay ahead of new threats and trends.

European Business: How has the market developed in recent years, particularly since the pandemic?

Paolo Marsella: During the pandemic, we experienced a temporary slowdown in growth because we were not directly involved in providing hardware for remote work, such as laptops. However, once that phase passed, we returned to steady growth. The cybersecurity market continues to expand at a double-digit rate. Awareness of cyber risk is increasing, although in Italy there is still room for improvement in aligning budgets with actual risk levels. Overall, geopolitical and energy crises have not significantly affected our trajectory because demand for cybersecurity remains strong.

European Business: Artificial intelligence is transforming many industries. What impact does it have on your business?

Paolo Marsella: AI is a central driver of future growth. On the one hand, attackers use AI to make their methods faster and more effective. We therefore need to use AI to counter AI. On the other hand, companies are increasingly deploying AI systems internally, which introduces new risks related to data privacy, data leakage and model manipulation. Organizations must ensure that the output of their AI systems is reliable and protected from malicious interference. This creates new demand for advanced cybersecurity solutions.

European Business: What are your strategic goals for the coming years?

Paolo Marsella: As part of the Nomios Group, we have ambitious growth targets. For the next three years, we expect an average annual growth rate of around 20%. We want to expand our presence in northern Italy, particularly in the north-east, including the South Tyrol region, which is economically dynamic and close to the German-speaking market. At the same time, we remain focused on quality rather than expansion at any cost.

European Business: Finally, how would you summarize the mission of Nomios Italy?

Paolo Marsella: Digitalization is a tremendous opportunity for productivity and innovation, but it amplifies risk. Our mission is to ensure that organizations can embrace digital transformation with confidence. By combining engineering excellence, advanced technologies and managed services, we help our clients turn cyber risk into cyber resilience. In a world where threats evolve at machine speed, our strategy is clear: stay technical, stay agile and stay ahead.
