Kerstin Sobottka: Rijk Zwaan was founded in 1924 in the Netherlands and has since developed into one of the leading companies in vegetable breeding. The company operates globally and has over 30 subsidiaries in various countries. Wirtschaftsforum: What led you to Rijk Zwaan?

Kerstin Sobottka: I have worked for many years in the seed breeding industry, including at large companies like Monsanto and Syngenta. After returning to Europe, I was looking for an opportunity to bring my experience to a company that puts people at the center. Rijk Zwaan gave me the chance to develop new ideas and support the team. That fits very well with my leadership style, which is based on respect, honesty, and teamwork.

Wirtschaftsforum: How does Rijk Zwaan position itself compared to other large companies in the industry?

Kerstin Sobottka: We are among the top 4 vegetable breeding companies worldwide. With about 4,000 employees globally and 140 employees in Welver, we are able to develop innovative solutions for our customers. Our breeding station in Marne is the only one in the world for cabbage and plays a central role in our product development.
