Interview with Ludwig Kränzle, Managing Director of Josef Kränzle GmbH & Co. KG
For 50 years, Josef Kränzle GmbH & Co. KG has stood for quality, innovation, and sustainable high-pressure cleaning technology. As a leading manufacturer, the company relies on state-of-the-art solutions for industry, craft, and private users – with a focus on performance, durability, and environmental friendliness. In a conversation with managing director Ludwig Kränzle, we learn more about market development, current challenges, and the company's innovative strength.
Josef Kränzle GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 1974 by Josef Kränzle as a one-man operation. From the beginning, the company focused on technological innovation and the highest quality. Initially, Kränzle manufactured accessories for high-pressure cleaning equipment, before starting its own production of high-pressure cleaners in 1982 – a milestone for the company's growth. Ludwig Kränzle joined the company in 1989, worked through various departments, and took over as CEO in 2010. Today Kränzle employs 245 staff and achieves an annual turnover of around 80 million EUR. The high quality and delivery reliability are particularly valued. Distribution is exclusively through a closed system of specialist dealers, thus the company deliberately avoids large trading chains.
Challenges and Sustainable Future Orientation
Kränzle has proven resilient against global crises. During the coronavirus pandemic, the company benefited from rising demand for cleaning equipment, particularly from homeowners. Thanks to proactive stockpiling, supply shortages were avoided. However, the war in Ukraine posed a challenge. "The rising cost of raw materials, energy costs, and economic uncertainties have challenged us," says Ludwig Kränzle. This was particularly evident in the order situation in the last quarter of 2023. "But already in the first quarter of 2024, we have stabilized and are currently very satisfied," Ludwig Kränzle continues. Political developments also cause uncertainty. "The upcoming federal election is decisive for small and medium-sized enterprises. We need stability, fair cost adjustments, and fairer taxation," emphasizes Ludwig Kränzle. Trade relations with the USA are also dependent on political changes, yet the company remains optimistic. Sustainability continues to be a focus. The devices are continuously designed to be more energy-efficient to reduce water and electricity consumption. Especially small high-pressure cleaners for private households and powerful hot water devices for the industry have been further developed. A comprehensive sustainability report will drive further improvements. Additionally, photovoltaic systems have been installed for self-sufficiency in electricity supply and supply chains have been optimized.
Global Presence, Digitalization and Customer Communication
With a sales network in over 70 countries, Kränzle has a broad international presence. The company is particularly strong in Germany with over 1,800 specialist dealers, as well as in the core markets of the Benelux countries, France, and Austria. Other significant sales regions include Switzerland, Poland, the USA, and Korea. "Previously, we were very strong in Korea, but political developments have changed the market. Our focus now is on all of Europe, where we see further potential," explains Ludwig Kränzle. Digitalization is also progressing. While all internal processes are already digitized, the high-pressure cleaners are also being developed further. "Our devices already have digital features, but we are continuously optimizing," says Ludwig Kränzle. The use of artificial intelligence for diagnostic and maintenance systems is being explored. Personal customer communication remains essential. "In Europe, digital communication is standard, but in Asia, great importance is placed on personal conversations. Customer visits there are a sign of appreciation," says Ludwig Kränzle. The company therefore combines digital processes with personal contact to meet the needs of different markets. Functionality and quality are crucial factors. "Our devices must be powerful but also intuitive to use," says Ludwig Kränzle. The high customer satisfaction is evident in that many new customers come through personal recommendations.
Employees, Success Factors, and Future Plans
Innovation is one of the most important factors for success. New developments are directly incorporated into production, allowing Kränzle to always offer the most modern cleaning technology. Another recipe for success is high employee retention. Many employees have been with the company for decades, some even for over 40 years. "This experience is invaluable to us. However, many long-term employees will soon be retiring – that's a challenge," says Ludwig Kränzle. To counteract the shortage of skilled workers, Kränzle is specifically investing in promoting young talent. "We need to invest more in recruitment and training to pass on our know-how," emphasizes Ludwig Kränzle. In addition to technical specialists, the company is also looking for experts in digitalization and sustainable production technologies. The future plans for 2025 include new product lines, the modernization of production, and further optimization of processes. "Our goal is to maintain revenues at a stable level and make our production processes more efficient," explains Ludwig Kränzle. "We stand for innovation and sustainability, as well as for sustainable growth, secure jobs, and long-term perspectives for our employees," concludes the managing director.
