From Installer to Energy Systems Leader
Interview with Lasse Buchmann, CEO
From a small Danish electrical installer to a leading specialist in building management systems, LTECH A/S’s growth has been driven by rising demand for energy efficiency, digitalization and sustainability. Despite rapid expansion, the company has maintained a strong people-first culture. CEO Lasse Buchmann explains how openness, technical expertise and a clear strategic focus continue to shape LTECH’s success.
European Business: Mr. Buchmann, LTECH has grown remarkably since its founding. What are the key milestones in the company’s development?
Lasse Buchmann: LTECH was founded in 1997 by Henrik Holmgren as a traditional electrical installation company. In 2008 we entered the Building Management Systems (BMS) segment, back then we were 16 employees, now we’re close to 300. The growth has largely been driven by the increasing importance of energy efficiency and the green transition.
European Business: What made your approach in the BMS market distinctive?
Lasse Buchmann: The Danish market was dominated by large (BMS) companies that tied customers to their own systems. We took a different approach: we allowed customers to choose any system or product they preferred and provided the integration and management around it. This openness was very well received, because clients valued flexibility rather than being locked into a single provider.
European Business: Has your growth primarily been organic, or have acquisitions played a role?
Lasse Buchmann: Growth has mainly been organic. We have acquired a few small companies, usually to strengthen competencies, but most of our expansion has come from hiring and deve-loping our own people. The biggest challenge is finding qualified employees, which is why we also invest heavily in training through our own LTECH Academy. Our culture emphasizes well-being, purpose and work-life balance. We believe that satisfied employees deliver the best results for customers.
European Business: Do younger generations show growing interest in this field?
Lasse Buchmann: Yes, increa-singly so. Working with modern building technologies combines practical skills with advanced technical understanding. Many young people are motivated by the opportunity to contribute to sustainability and make a tangible difference through their work.
European Business: How has your own role evolved alongside the company’s growth?
Lasse Buchmann: In the early days, everyone did everything – sales, project management and technical work. As we grew, we built a more structured organization. Today, my role as CEO is primarily strategic, while our teams manage day-to-day operations. It has been a natural transition from hands-on work to leadership.
European Business: What range of services does LTECH offer today?
Lasse Buchmann: We operate across all sectors, from municipalities to industry, infrastructure and life sciences. Our comprehensive services range from electrical installations to building, energy and facility management systems, cloud services and operational optimization. We work on everything from large, complex building projects to smaller, highly flexible solutions delivered efficiently via the cloud.
European Business: Sustainability is a major industry topic. How does it affect your business?
Lasse Buchmann: It is both a challenge and a major growth driver. Building management systems play a key role in redu-cing energy consumption and supporting the green transition. A large proportion of existing buildings in Europe still needs to be upgraded to meet modern energy standards. Looking ahead, the main opportunity lies in data: modern buildings generate enormous amounts of information, and the ability to analyse and use that data will shape the future, especially with AI-based tools.
European Business: What is your current market position?
Lasse Buchmann: In Denmark, we are the leading independent company in the BMS segment. We compete with global players, but within our core market we have built a strong position based on our expertise and independence.
European Business: Are there plans for geographic expansion?
Lasse Buchmann: In Denmark, we aim to strengthen our regional presence by opening additional offices. In the longer term, expansion into neighbouring markets such as Sweden or Germany is a clear option, depending on customer demand.
European Business: Finally, what drives LTECH’s success?
Lasse Buchmann: It ultimately comes down to people. If you have the right employees in the right roles, motivated by a meaningful purpose, business success will follow. That philosophy has guided us from the beginning and will continue to do so in the future.
