From September 15 to 17, 2026, the Future Personnel Europe will open at the Koelnmesse. It is considered the largest HR fair in Europe and this year's theme is 'Team Human x AI'. The title addresses the tension that has been shaping HR work for two years: artificial intelligence as a replacement for humans or as their enhancement.

{"title_1":"From AI Label to Application","paragraph_1":"For the SME sector, the timing is delicate. Many companies have scaled back new hires, personnel budgets are under strain, and nearly every HR tool now carries an AI label. During the 2025 issue, the tone shifted, according to the trade press: away from gimmicks, towards applications with concrete benefits. Whether this applies across the board or only to some can be verified in Cologne at one location, instead of guessing from product videos.","title_2":"What Visitors Gain","paragraph_2":"The benefit of the fair lies in the direct comparison. Those who arrive with clear questions can measure recruiting software, learning platforms, and payroll systems against their own processes, rather than collecting glossy brochures. The four main themes organize the field: Recruiting & Attraction, Organizational Performance, Learning & Development, and Corporate Health. The latter deserves more attention in a tight labor market than it usually receives because retention is cheaper than rehiring."}

Speakers and Formats

Announced speakers include labor researcher Hans Rusinek, AI expert and author Kenza Ait Si Abbou, and keynote speaker Frederik G. Pferdt. Representing the employer side are Barbara Wittmann (LinkedIn), Inga Dransfeld-Haase (CHRO of TÜV Nord Group), and Thomas Lurz (CHRO of s.Oliver Group). Besides the lecture stages, the HR Hack Lab and the ZP Impact Lab focus on workshops rather than frontal lectures, and the Startup Stage features young providers in short slots. The HR Innovation Award honors new products, and the '30 under 30' format highlights young professionals.

The Real Test

The theme 'Team Human x AI' sounds conciliatory. However, the test occurs at the booth, not on stage: There it becomes clear whether a tool actually reduces work or if the same software merely sports a new label. Those seeking this distinction will find more progress in Cologne than with any vendor demo. The fair runs from September 15 to 17, with tickets and the program available online.
