Workplaces become Experience Spaces

Interview with Ulrich Schwarz, co-founder and managing director of 21-arch GmbH

Every building is unique. It is a sign of its time, yet timeless. It expresses attitude and lifestyle, creates atmosphere, and must, especially in the commercial sector, serve functionalities at the same time. Here, 21-arch GmbH from Stuttgart excels with its solutions that pick up on trends in the working world.

"A very important issue that has led to significant changes in commercial and office buildings is digitalization," explains co-founder and CEO Ulrich Schwarz.

Offices with a Living Space Character

"Today, office spaces are understood as living spaces, the boundaries are fluid," he continues. "Another trend is moving away from meetings in official large settings. The goal here is to create alternatives that also have more of a living space character, such as coffee bars, or a seating area with a sofa and soft lighting."

Clients from various industries are realizing this new concept of work environments together with 21-arch GmbH, including hotels, industrial companies, restaurants, and even private clients.

The reference list of the Stuttgart-based company is long and includes numerous prestigious projects such as a project for Porsche AG or the Calw District Office. The company has also made its mark internationally, with projects including a solar factory in Jordan, the Börlind Flagship Store in Milan, or the Benetton competition 'Designing in Tehran'.

"Our approach is fully focused on the human aspect," explains Ulrich Schwarz the success of the company. "Higher employee satisfaction automatically means higher productivity. Our concept also applies to manufacturing facilities. Of course, the needs are different and one must develop individual concepts accordingly."
