In the world of healthcare, precision and safety matter more than ever. As a global manufacturer of syringes, needles, and accessories, Sol-Millennium Europe Sp. z o.o. blends global standards with local quality, ensuring that doctors and nurses can treat patients safely. With innovative technologies, sustainable processes, and a steadfast commitment to global quality standards, the company sets the benchmark in medical technology.

Sol-Millennium is a global healthcare company dedicated to the research, development, manufacture, and distribution of high-quality medical devices that support best clinical practice while protecting healthcare staff – and patient – from the risks associated with needle-stick injuries, exposure to blood and hazardous drugs, medication errors, and infections.

Early global expansion

The company traces its origins to 1982, when Sol-Millennium’s parent entity was founded as a medical device molds manufacturer.
Senior Director Giulio Falconi, based at Sol-Millennium’s European headquarters in Warsaw, notes that Sol-Millennium was founded in 2007 specifically to develop, design, manufacture, and distribute medical devices. “Our first product was a syringe for vaccination campaigns. This is notable because our first customer was a distributor in Brazil who was specifically searching a device suitable for a vaccination campaign in the region of São

Paulo – this distributor would eventually become our first international office”, states Giulio Falconi. “The global expansion began immediately. By 2009, we had two global offices – one in Brazil and another in the United States. Our presence in Europe started in 2012, when the Warsaw office was established as Sol-Millennium Europe, responsible for the development of the entire European region, Africa, and the Middle East.” From there, Sol-Millennium grew into a truly global company, today headquartered in Chicago, United States. It stands as a vertically integrated medical-supply company and one of the world’s largest manufacturers of needles and syringes, along with a comprehensive range of medical supplies.

Introducing new products

“Our innovative technology reduces needlestick injuries, lowers medication costs, and enhances safety when handling syringes and needles,” Giulio Falconi says. “As we expanded globally, we broadened our product portfolio. We began with needles and syringes and gradually diversified. Today, we cover a much broader spectrum – from medical devices to general healthcare solutions. We operate as both manufacturer and distributor, having introduced care-management devices, cotton dressings, and other products in our portfolio. We also plan to expand into the beauty-care market, bringing expertise from the healthcare sector to products useful in that segment. Our aim is to strengthen our commercial reach and organization, evolving from a selling distributor specialized company selling own products into a broader distributor with a local presence in multiple countries to coordinate diverse channels.”

Outcome of the pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic proved pivotal for Sol-Millennium. Having started with vaccination syringes, it expanded to supply syringes for vaccination campaigns as well as personal protective equipment through its corporate network across various countries. “We discovered that we were not only good at making specialized syringes but also at sourcing products and managing complex logistics. We decided to broaden our local footprint. Before COVID, there was talk of opening local offices; afterwards, it became the company’s primary strategy. We are expanding our portfolio, entering new markets, and pursuing additional products – that is the positive outcome,” Giulio
Falconi notes. At the same time, the company faced significant logistical challenges. “We are, in fact, dependent on a small number of countries for product supply, but we are working hard to diversify our sourcing and to forge collaborations in different markets so we can manufacture closer to the markets we serve. This is challenging because it limits production scale, but it enables local production. Our R&D expertise – with a team located in Europe – ensures that products remain identical even when produced at different plants,” Giulio Falconi explains.

Expanding into beauty care

Today, the focus is on producing medical devices for hospitals, insulin delivery for diabetes care, and blood collection. In the future, Sol-Millenium plans to explore another technology – cotton –, reducing its reliance on oil based materials and enabling expansion into personal protective equipment, specialized clothing, and wipes, drapes, and wound-care tissues. “We will continue to serve the same customer base – hospital and patient care – while expanding into the cosmetics and beauty-care segment with cotton products,” points out Giulio Falconi. Compared with major market players, Sol-Millennium, with about 280 employees and a targeted turnover of USD 80 million, presents itself as a highly innovative company with an affordable portfolio that stands the test of time against big competitors. “In many cases, we can produce at lower costs, more in line with market expectations. This does not apply to every product, but to many,” Giulio Falconi says. “For the coming years, our aim is to balance providing field support to customers with maintaining cost efficiency for servicing. Digitalization will be an important tool to increase service efficiency and customer satisfaction levels. We have also started a journey towards higher environmental and social responsibility. We have achieved Equovadis and ISO 140001 certifications for European operations. In approaching the market, we aim to increase our awareness of customers’ needs to arrive at the right product offering before signing a contract with the customer. I, having a scientific education, remain driven by learning something new every day, and working with international colleagues at our global company is truly inspiring. Each one is bringing their own experience and their own ideas to the company, and the company culture is that we are listening.”
