European Business: Mr. Ott, could you tell us about the origins of Zimmerei Berthold Ott GmbH and its journey so far? 

Berthold Ott: Our journey began over three decades ago with a simple yet ambitious vision: to deliver exceptional craftsmanship in the construction industry. Starting as a modest operation, we have steadily grown into a trusted name in the sector, now employing nearly 50 dedicated professionals. Today, we generate an impressive annual turnover of 9 million EUR. This growth reflects our unwavering commitment to quality and innovation. As we celebrate 30 years of excellence, we remain steadfast in upholding the values of sustainability, precision, and continuous improvement that have defined our journey. 

European Business: Can you elaborate on the company’s structure and how it supports your operations? 

Berthold Ott: Our organization is structured into eight distinct departments, each playing a crucial role in ensuring the seamless execution of projects. This clear division of responsibilities fosters both efficiency and accountability. Recently, we introduced a robust leadership framework by appointing a new operational manager. This allows me to dedicate more time to strategic planning and envisioning the company’s future. Our structured approach not only enhances internal coordination but also ensures that we consistently deliver on our promise of quality and innovation.

European Business: How do your employees contribute to the company’s success, and which role do training and philosophy play? 

Berthold Ott: Employees are, without a doubt, the backbone of our success. Our philosophy revolves around creating a workplace where each individual feels valued and empowered. We prioritize continuous learning through regular training sessions and dual-study programs, ensuring our team stays ahead of industry advancements. We actively engage with regulatory bodies to advocate for more streamlined processes. Labor shortages are another pressing issue, but we view them as opportunities to innovate. By focusing on proactive recruitment and nurturing talent through our comprehensive training programs, we ensure that our workforce remains skilled and adaptable. These strategies allow us to navigate industry challenges while maintaining our competitive edge.

Berthold Ott: Sustainability is deeply embedded in our operations. Through our ‘Healthy Living’ brand, we actively promote environmentally friendly practices by using renewable materials and toxin-free processes. Digitalization is equally pivotal; our interactive website and active social media presence enable us to engage effectively with clients and showcase our expertise. Innovation is another cornerstone of our strategy. While artificial intelligence is still in its nascent stages within our company, we are actively exploring its potential to optimize operations and enhance decision-making processes. 

European Business: What are your international activities, and how do you approach marketing and future growth? 

Berthold Ott: While our primary base of operations is in Germany, our reach extends far beyond. Participation in international trade fairs and collaborations has been instrumental in showcasing our expertise and fostering partnerships across Europe. Exporting sustainable solutions remains a key focus as we strive to meet global demands. On the marketing front, we have transitioned from traditional methods to leveraging digital platforms such as social media and our website, ensuring consistent engagement with our audience. Looking ahead, we aim to expand our workforce to 80 to 100 employees and broaden our services to include heating, sanitation, and electrical planning. These initiatives reflect our vision of becoming a comprehensive service provider and setting new benchmarks in sustainability and innovation within the construction sector.
