Because That's Who We Are: Strong in the Niche, Clear in Our Stance
Interview with Werner Brase, Board Member of Allcura Versicherungs-AG
Hamburg-based ALLCURA Versicherungs-AG stands for a responsible business model. As an independent specialty insurer, the company focuses on professional indemnity insurance. Sustainability and customer orientation shape the corporate culture. Or, as board member Werner Brase puts it: 'We do sustainability because that's who we are.' A statement that carries weight, both internally and externally.
Wirtschaftsforum: Mr. Brase, what is special about ALLCURA Versicherungs-AG?
Werner Brase: We are a young company with traditional values. ALLCURA was founded in 2011 not as a subsidiary of a corporation, but by a small group of dedicated people. This personal foundation shapes us to this day. ALLCURA is largely owned by its employees. The employee participation company is the largest single shareholder and has a blocking minority. This means: Those who make decisions here also bear responsibility, both ideologically and economically.
Wirtschaftsforum: How does this structure affect your corporate culture?
Werner Brase: It fosters identification, personal responsibility, and resilience. When we make mistakes, it affects not 'some company', but ourselves. This influences our daily actions, in risk assessment as well as in claims management. This structure creates trust - with customers, partners, and reinsurers. Our actions are aimed at long-term reliability, not quick effects. We are not a vehicle for short-term profit maximization, but a company with integrity.
Wirtschaftsforum: Your company specializes in pecuniary damage liability insurance - why this focus?
Werner Brase: We believe in expertise instead of breadth. Pecuniary damage liability is a demanding segment that requires comprehensive expertise. Whether for lawyers, tax advisors, IT specialists or managing directors: We offer individually tailored solutions. Our products are understandable, fair and without hidden clauses. Customers appreciate this. We are not a conglomerate with a hotline, but a reliable partner with dedicated contacts. Our principle is: "Understand clients. Assess risks." This is how fair insurance protection is created.
Wirtschaftsforum: What sets you apart from the competition?
Werner Brase: Our blend of expertise, efficiency and personal service is unique in the German market. We offer quick response times, understandable products and direct accessibility. Many customers come to us after waiting too long for a response elsewhere. It is important to us that our policies are not only legally correct but also understood. We believe that ultimately, the specialist prevails - with competence, clarity and honesty.
Wirtschaftsforum: What does sustainability mean for ALLCURA?
Werner Brase: Sustainability is not a fad for us. We published our first voluntary sustainability report in 2017, followed by the second four years later. We think of sustainability holistically: ecologically, socially and economically. For instance, we consciously forego a fleet of cars and promote climate-friendly mobility. Our office locations in Hamburg and Munich are centrally located, ideally accessible by public transport. We also live sustainability in our daily work. Our employees are partners at eye level. In addition to health-related offers, we promote further education, transparency and participation. Digitalization is not a separate sustainability driver for us: paperless operations, digital communication, and efficient claims processes have been part of our practice from the start. Thus, we create space for the essentials - thinking and acting in the interest of our clients.
Wirtschaftsforum: How do you measure your success - and what does growth mean to you?
Werner Brase: We invest specifically in training and further education. Alongside internal formats like the 'ALLCURA Fachakademie', we support external cooperations, such as with the German Society for Pecuniary Damage Liability (DGVH e.V.). Thus, we secure know-how for a demanding segment with a future. We are regarded as reliable, stable, and competent on many levels. Our growth confirms this: Since the fifth year, we have been profitable, in 2021 our gross premium was over 15 million EUR, today it is over 21 million. For a niche provider, this is remarkable. Importantly: Our growth is sustainable. Every new business must fit our philosophy. Size is not our goal, quality is.
Wirtschaftsforum: What do your clients expect, and what should they expect?
Werner Brase: Our clients expect individual consultation, clear communication and quick help in the event of a claim. We deliver on our promises, since our foundation. If a claim is justified, it is regulated swiftly. This is a matter of course for us. Likewise, personal contact: Our clients can call us or visit us without detours. We are 'old-fashioned' in the best sense - with modern tools. This mix characterizes us: highly automated in processing, yet human; efficient and thorough. We stay on course. Consistency, fairness, and professional excellence remain our compass. We accept new challenges, whether due to legislative changes, cyber risks or new professional profiles, without sacrificing our values. We thus provide reliability for our clients, employees and partners.
