Lightning protection and electrical inspections – this is the specialization of RSI Lightning Protection Systems GmbH, which has established itself as a leading provider in Germany. Frank Möller, CEO, Antonio Benavides, Authorized Signatory and Head of Human Resources, and Volker Emshoff, Authorized Signatory and Head of Operations Management, discuss the development of the company, the influence of digitalization, their employee philosophy, and the future goals of RSI.

Wirtschaftsforum: Mr. Möller, RSI Blitzschutzsysteme GmbH can look back on more than 20 successful years. Let us take a look at the beginnings of the company with you.

Frank Möller: RSI was founded in 2002 by me and two partners. The reason was a dissatisfactory situation in my former work environment. Within three months, we created a business plan and started with five employees. It was an exciting but challenging time, as the Euro was introduced at the same time. We specialized in lightning protection inspections from the beginning and have continuously expanded our offerings.

Wirtschaftsforum: Mr. Emshoff, how is the company structured today?

Volker Emshoff: Our structure is modern and decentralized to reduce fixed costs and ensure flexibility. The headquarters in Heppenheim serves as an organizational center, but our employees are active nationwide, mostly working from home. Currently, we employ 80 people, and we grow by about 8 to 10 people each year. We have deliberately avoided traditional branches because we can digitize many processes. Nevertheless, we make sure that our teams remain well connected.

Wirtschaftsforum: Mr. Benavides, what philosophy do you pursue at RSI regarding your employees?

Antonio Benavides: Our employees are the cornerstone of our company. We live by the principle that working time is lifetime. Therefore, we offer flexible working hours, home office options, and an open corporate culture. New employees should feel comfortable from the beginning, which we achieve through a familiar culture of address and personal support.

Wirtschaftsforum: What challenges do you currently see in your industry?

Frank Möller: The shortage of skilled workers is one of the biggest challenges. We address this through targeted employer branding and digital processes. Our cloud-based IT infrastructure enables us to automate many processes. The use of AI will also play a bigger role in the future, for example in the analysis of audit data and the optimization of maintenance cycles. At the same time, we focus on long-term employee retention through an attractive working environment. Our annual turnover is now over 9 million EUR, and we are growing continuously.

Wirtschaftsforum: How does RSI focus on sustainability?

Volker Emshoff: For us, sustainability is more than just a buzzword. Our digital processes minimize paper consumption, and our decentralized structure reduces CO2 emissions, as there is less commuting. A central component is also extending the lifespan of facilities through our maintenance services. With this, we offer our customers sustainable solutions and reduce resource wastage.

Wirtschaftsforum: What role does digitalization play in your work environment?

Antonio Benavides: Digitalization is a crucial driver for us. Our cloud-based IT infrastructure allows us to work efficiently, whether in the home office or in customer support. We also use digital tools in recruiting to quickly and easily make contact with candidates. This helps us position ourselves as a modern employer.

Wirtschaftsforum: Mr. Möller, what is your long-term vision for RSI?

Frank Möller: We plan to open regional branches to deploy our technicians closer to their homes. This reduces travel times and makes us an even more attractive employer. We also want to further expand our IT-supported services to offer customers even more personalized solutions. In the long term, we want to be a role model for digitalization and employee orientation in the mid-sized sector.

Wirtschaftsforum: How important are international activities for RSI?

Volker Emshoff: Currently, our focus is on the German market. However, we are examining how we can offer our services in neighboring countries like Austria and Switzerland. Our IT infrastructure makes us flexible and scalable. International expansion is an exciting topic that we will continue to pursue in the coming years.

Wirtschaftsforum: What role do marketing strategies and events play in positioning the company?

Antonio Benavides: Social media, trade shows, and events are central components for us. They help us introduce our services, acquire new customers and employees, and build trust with our target groups. Our internal marketing department operates like an agency and ensures a strong presence and successful future through high-quality content.
