Water: a Precious Commodity
Interview with Michael Dold, Managing Director of aquavilla GmbH
In a time when water, as a precious resource, is becoming increasingly scarce, aquavilla GmbH from St. Georgen in the Black Forest demonstrates how responsible water supply can be designed. With a clear focus on sustainability, innovation, and employee satisfaction, aquavilla is an example of how municipal companies can work successfully.
"We are an intermunicipal GmbH that oversees public utility services in water supply," explains Managing Director Michael Dold. The idea for founding aquavilla GmbH arose from the necessity to maintain water supply in municipalities without falling into the hands of private companies. aquavilla relies on a municipal structure that allows it to flexibly respond to legal requirements and challenges such as the tightening of the Drinking Water Ordinance.
The goal: further growth
Initially, aquavilla started with just four employees. Today, the company has 27 employees and serves several municipalities. "We have expanded significantly over the last ten years," says Michael Dold. This is not only due to increased demand but also due to growing challenges in the water supply sector. These include ensuring water quality and adapting to climatic changes that affect water resources.
Innovative Solutions
"We are focusing on digital solutions to increase the efficiency of our processes," explains Michael Dold. These include the implementation of smart metering and the digitalization of documentation. These measures help not only in monitoring water quality but also in the early detection of pipe bursts.
Empowering Employees
aquavilla GmbH places great emphasis on the satisfaction of its employees. Michael Dold emphasizes: 'We are a team based on trust and personal responsibility.' The company also trains career changers to combat the shortage of skilled workers in the industry. 'We want to promote and provide the next generation of skilled workers,' says the CEO.
Outlook for the Future
The challenges in water supply are not diminishing. 'Water scarcity will increase in the coming years,' warns Michael Dold. aquavilla, however, is well positioned to meet these challenges. By networking with other municipalities and focusing on sustainable practices, the company will continue to play a central role in water supply.
