"We think along and provide solutions"
Interview with Christian Hofmann, Sales Manager of Alfred Kron GmbH
The metal processing industry is under pressure: digitalization, shortage of skilled workers, and global supply chains pose significant challenges to businesses. Those who want to be successful today must be flexible and rethink processes. An example of this development is Alfred Kron GmbH from Solingen. The family business combines specialized bending and stamping technology with a remarkable manufacturing depth, focusing on future topics such as sustainability and digitalization.
Founded in 1903, the company is now led by the 4th generation. "And the 5th generation is already preparing to take over," reports Christian Hofmann, Sales Director and member of the executive board. The production depth has been significantly increased in recent years: In addition to classic bending technology, Kron now also produces plastic injection molded parts and hybrid components. Packaging and cleaning are also part of the portfolio.
Globally connected, locally rooted
In project meetings with partners from India, China, or South America, the international orientation of Alfred Kron GmbH is particularly evident. Global supply chains and international customer structures are long a reality. Nevertheless, the German-speaking area with Germany, Austria, and Switzerland remains the most important market. "We control everything centrally from Solingen. Sales offices abroad would not currently be economically sensible for us," emphasizes Christian Hofmann. Digitalization has opened up new opportunities to efficiently care for customers over long distances. Personal conversations have become less frequent, which brings changes in daily sales operations. "Especially when building new customer relationships or developing technical solutions, it is important to be able to understand details even between the lines," explains Christian Hofmann.
Maintain knowledge, optimize processes
In addition to global alignment, the company is also concerned with the shortage of skilled workers. Alfred Kron continuously invests in training and ensures age-mixed teams. Currently, the company employs 90 people. At the same time, digital transformation is being intentionally advanced – including machine monitoring, digital tool cards, or using AI for data analysis. Kron is also active in sustainability: Since participating in the Ökoprofit program, the company's CO2 footprint has been determined. Individual product footprints are in progress – particularly for customers from the automotive industry, an increasingly important aspect.
Stamping technology plus added value
Technologically, Alfred Kron stands out through the combination of stamping, bending, and plastic technology – a depth that few companies offer. Complemented by modern cleaning and packaging technology in cleanroom environments, the company can deliver completely assembled and cleaned assemblies – a real USP. "We think along and deliver solutions, not just parts," sums up Christian Hofmann.
