Interview with Lumir Boureanu, CEO of compacer GmbH

Crisis-proof IT solutions, international major clients, strong roots in Europe: compacer GmbH from Gärtringen has secured a solid position in the field of process and data integration over two decades. However, CEO Lumir Boureanu is not pursuing a mere growth strategy – his goal is to remain a pioneer in a world where data streams, automation, and AI redefine economic processes.

When Lumir Boureanu joined compacer in 2003, the company was still a reseller for third-party software. 'Back then, we distributed solutions from the Finnish Telecom - until we realized that we were too dependent on other markets and too inflexible for large projects in Germany,' recalls the managing director. The turning point came in 2006 with the decision to develop their own platform. It was a bold move - at the time, cloud technology was still controversial. Today, compacer with its own platform edbic is among the specialists in data and process integration in the enterprise sector. Companies like Deutsche Telekom and other well-known international corporations rely on the solutions of the medium-sized enterprise. It's not just about technical excellence but also involves understanding regulatory requirements, compliance, and security - a crucial factor in business with system-relevant organizations.

Why Specialization is Key

"In theory we could do everything – but that does not scale," says Lumir Boureanu, highlighting a crucial success factor: focusing on clearly defined fields. The logistics industry in particular has established itself as a strong operational area over the past years – with numerous projects in container ports, postal companies, or freight operators. "We are not logisticians, but we digitize their processes. And we do that globally – from Ukraine to Chile," explains the CEO. Another pillar is manufacturing companies and large IT service providers. "Whether it's medical products or telecommunications – the crucial thing is that our platform processes millions of business transactions reliably: orders, delivery notes, invoices. That is our strength." That word-of-mouth is often the most effective sales channel does not surprise Lumir Boureanu: "Large companies usually have three or four converters in use. And still, they add another on top – ours."

With Artificial Intelligence as a Sparring Partner

Mere digitalization is no longer enough today – intelligent automation is the next step. "It used to be said that 30% of processes could be economically automated. With AI, it's different: it can make decisions, recognize patterns, and also handle short-term changes." This is where Lumir Boureanu sees the future: "Our platform is evolving into a digital sparring partner for companies." Particularly in industries with complex supply chains – such as the grocery retail sector with thousands of suppliers – AI can help speed up onboarding processes and make operational procedures more efficient. compacer has developed specialized AI agents for this purpose, which will be presented at an international partner event in Frankfurt in September. Simultaneously, preconfigured solutions are being developed, such as for the digitalization of ports – an area with enormous potential, as around 97% of the world's 24,000 ports are considered not fully digitalized.

Growth with Attitude – and with People

Despite international projects and technological depth: compacer does not see itself as a large corporation, but as a speedboat – agile, responsive, and focused on efficiency. With about 150 employees at locations in Germany, the Czech Republic, Finland, the Netherlands, and France, the company intentionally remains lean. Growth at any cost is not a goal for Lumir Boureanu. Rather, he wants to develop future-proof business models together with customers and partners – such as usage-based software offerings or white label solutions. Here, corporate culture plays a central role for the CEO: "We have many young employees under 30 – that's a huge strength. But they need guidance, coaching, support." Internally, compacer promotes an open error culture, external coaches, and mentoring models. Because, as Lumir Boureanu says: "Despite all the automation – nothing works here without people." His concern for people is also evident in his social commitment: When the port in Odessa – a compacer client – was affected by the war, the company spontaneously donated a five-figure sum to humanitarian aid for Ukraine.

Integration with Foresight

compacer GmbH exemplifies a new generation of mid-sized IT companies: highly specialized, internationally connected, driven by innovation – yet deeply rooted in human interaction. For Lumir Boureanu, this is not a contradiction, but a fundamental principle: "We take business personally – with our employees as well as the family businesses we support. And that's what makes the difference."
