Performance Pays Off
Interview with Klaus Grabowsky, Partner and Managing Director of Cosmetic Service GmbH
In the dynamic cosmetics market, flexibility and rapid adaptation to new trends and directives are crucial. Cosmetic Service GmbH, under the leadership of Klaus Grabowsky, excels in this area: With a wide range of products, innovative solutions, and a clear focus on service quality, the company successfully supports its customers and maintains its position in a competitive environment.
Wirtschaftsforum: Mr. Grabowsky, the cosmetics industry is fascinating and versatile. What personally attracts you to this field?
Klaus Grabowsky: Cosmetics combine science, creativity, and a strong connection to people. I am especially thrilled by the fact that cosmetics are more than just external care. They contribute to well-being, give people a good feeling, and strengthen their self-esteem. Promoting this and constantly developing new, innovative products is what drives me.
Wirtschaftsforum: Could you give us an overview of the services provided by Cosmetic Service GmbH?
Klaus Grabowsky: We have an extremely comprehensive range of services. Our 130 employees offer a wide assortment of products. This includes a variety of skin care products for the face, body, hands, and also foot care. Other pillars are the filling of (deodorant) sticks and waxes as well as perfume production and bottling. In addition, we offer biocides, which include disinfectants and insect repellent products. We have a development lab and a regulatory department. Cosmetic Service supplies the European and Asian branded goods industry. We do not supply drugstores, supermarkets, or discounters directly and do not have our own brands, as we do not want to compete with our customers. We rely on the ability to develop both innovative and high-quality products that meet the needs of our customers. In doing so, we consider new trends, customer wishes, and regulatory requirements.
Wirtschaftsforum: Innovation is thus a key driver at Cosmetic Service. How important is the team in this context?
Klaus Grabowsky: Without a committed and competent team, none of this would be possible. I place great emphasis on having my employees actively engage in their tasks and work with dedication. For me, this means that performance is demanded but also supported. Those who show effort are supported by us – be it through further training or the opportunity to grow into more responsible roles. However, those who show no motivation and do not contribute do not fit well with our corporate culture. Unfortunately, our society sometimes promotes attitudes that reflect little initiative and willingness to perform, which I find problematic. Commitment and effort are crucial for a company to progress. We must set clear expectations and act consistently when they are not met.
Wirtschaftsforum: So you place great importance on readiness to perform and motivation in the team.
Klaus Grabowsky: Since 2012, Cosmetic Service GmbH has grown from 16 to over 130 employees, reflecting the trust in our products and services, as well as the commitment of all employees. Our continuous expansion is based on a culture of openness and clear expectations, where everyone knows exactly what is expected of them. Through flat hierarchies and direct communication, we create an environment where employees can actively participate and realize their ideas. Performance and effort are rewarded, which motivates most to give their best.
Wirtschaftsforum: Apart from the employees, the development of new products is also in focus. How do you manage to always stay up-to-date?
Klaus Grabowsky: Research and development are central to our success. Each year, hundreds of new formulations emerge in our laboratory, with a focus on quality, innovation, and sustainability. We prefer environmentally friendly raw materials and packaging materials, and also support our customers in this regard. In general, we see ourselves as problem solvers for our customers, as we offer solutions tailored to specific needs and challenges. Flexibility is a decisive factor.
Wirtschaftsforum: What role does personal commitment play in company management for you?
Klaus Grabowsky: For me, it is self-evident that I lead by example and show the same commitment that I expect from my employees. I am convinced that the success of a company significantly depends on the commitment and passion of everyone involved. When the team sees that the leadership team is fully engaged, it also motivates others.
Wirtschaftsforum: How do you view the future of Cosmetic Service GmbH?
Klaus Grabowsky: We have achieved a lot in recent years, but I still see tremendous potential. We want to continue to grow, expand our product portfolio, and also gain a stronger foothold internationally. But this is only possible with a strong team and clear goals. Passion, effort, and a clear vision – these are the factors that will make us successful in the future.
