Interview with Simon Härke, Managing Director of DEKOM GmbH
DEKOM GmbH is an innovative IT systems house that specializes in high-quality AV technology. With over 280 employees and 15 international locations, the company is a leading provider of solutions in video communication. In an interview with Wirtschaftsforum, Simon Härke, the managing director of DEKOM, discusses the company philosophy, the challenges and opportunities in the industry, and the future of communication technology.
Wirtschaftsforum: Mr. Härke, what motivated you to work at DEKOM?
Simon Härke: I am convinced that many problems in the world can be attributed to poor communication. My personal drive is to tackle this challenge. Even during my studies, I dealt intensively with video communication. It's fascinating how technology can revolutionize the way we communicate.
Wirtschaftsforum: How would you describe the mission of DEKOM?
Simon Härke: Our mission is to ignite a passion for communication. We use cutting-edge technology to help companies make decisions faster, build trust, and increase efficiency. We believe that the use of video communication not only enhances efficiency but also strengthens interpersonal connections.
Wirtschaftsforum: What role does technology play in your work?
Simon Härke: Technology is at the core of our services. We are not just an IT company, but also an integrator, ensuring that technology operates smoothly. We work on optimizing human-machine interaction so that information can be effectively transmitted between people via computers.
Wirtschaftsforum: DEKOM has established itself internationally. What were the decisive steps in this expansion?
Simon Härke: The first major step was the establishment of our location in Madrid in 2006. We quickly realized that the demand for professional video conferencing solutions was not only present in Germany but also internationally. This led to the establishment of further locations in Europe. Our customers followed us to various countries, and we have always endeavored to be present where our customers need us.
Wirtschaftsforum: The coronavirus pandemic has posed challenges for many companies. How did DEKOM respond?
Simon Härke: Indeed, the pandemic was a turning point for us. The demand for video communication surged. We invested in our international locations and formed a young team that was able to act quickly during the pandemic. This has helped us to emerge stronger from the crisis.
Wirtschaftsforum: How do you see the future of work post-pandemic?
Simon Härke: The world of work has changed sustainably. Hybrid working is becoming the norm. Companies have realized that they need to become more flexible to meet the needs of their employees. We support this development with technologies that enable location-independent work while ensuring the quality of communication.
Wirtschaftsforum: DEKOM also offers Managed Services. What are the advantages for your customers?
Simon Härke: Our Managed Services allow customers to rent functions instead of buying equipment. This means they do not have to worry about maintenance and operation since we take responsibility for ensuring that everything works. With our DEKOM X as a Service offering, we provide our customers with the opportunity to rent not only hardware but also comprehensive services. This allows customers to better plan their expenses and at the same time use the latest technology without worrying about long-term commitments. This is especially advantageous for companies that want to focus on their core business.
Wirtschaftsforum: Which projects are particularly important for DEKOM?
Simon Härke: One of the most significant projects was the installation for the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in Hamburg. It was a major challenge that we successfully accomplished. Such projects show that we are capable of delivering the highest quality even under pressure.
Wirtschaftsforum: How important are your employees to the success of DEKOM?
Simon Härke: Our employees are the backbone of the company. We promote a culture of co-determination and sharing. Every employee has the opportunity to share in the success of the company. This collaboration creates a strong team spirit and motivates our employees to give their best.
Wirtschaftsforum: What are the future plans for DEKOM?
Simon Härke: We want to continue to grow and expand our presence in Europe. There are many markets that offer potential for our solutions. In addition, we will focus more on innovative technologies to offer our customers the best solutions.
