Values, Change, Foresight: A Company on the Move
Interview with Sebastian Scheuvens, Managing Director of FAS – Flüssiggas-Anlagen GmbH
Technological competence is important, but no longer enough. FAS Flüssiggas-Anlagen GmbH from Salzgitter impressively demonstrates how a medium-sized company starts successfully into a new era with customer proximity, employee orientation, and clear values. With new leadership, strategic foresight, and lived enthusiasm for change, FAS is more than just a specialist in LPG technology – it is a company on the move.
Since joining the Danish corporate group Makeen Energy A/S in 2024, FAS has initiated profound cultural and structural changes. The focus is not merely on integration into the corporation, but rather on a deliberate realignment from within. Sebastian Scheuvens, as sole managing director since March 2025, and Daniel Karrenführer-Droste, Vice President of Service Europe, share a common leadership philosophy: employee orientation, open communication, and motivation as the foundation of business success. "We want to inspire people, our employees as well as our customers," says the managing director. "We lead by example in what we expect from others: honesty, openness, and the willingness to take responsibility."
Priority: People & Culture
From the beginning, the new leadership focused on people. Personal responsibility is encouraged, communication is strengthened, and collaboration is rethought.
It pays off, whether at training fairs, in applicant selection, or in daily interaction. "We experience that we can win people over with genuine enthusiasm and honest communication, not just as an employer, but also for our common mission," says Daniel Karrenführer-Droste. This cultural foundation is also valued by the corporation: FAS is considered a model of successful transformation within Makeen Energy.
Customer Desires at the Center
Parallel to the internal change, the business model was strategically developed further — with a clear focus on customer proximity and service quality. "The customer presents a problem, we develop the appropriate solution," says Sebastian Scheuvens. "While other providers scale back their service, we apply the opposite emphasis: closeness, reliability, genuine listening." With 20% revenue growth, a specialized technical team, and its own fleet of vehicles, FAS underscores its claim to service sector leadership.
Solutions Instead of Products
The expertise of FAS extends beyond the product: the company sees itself as a technical solutions provider with deep engineering expertise. From biogas plants to filling stations to complex compressor systems, each customer requirement is implemented individually and supported long-term. The principle: One-stop shop with a quality promise. In the process, new markets – for instance in the industry – are being developed as part of the future strategy. With specific solutions for glass manufacturers, CO2 applications, or nitrogen projects, FAS strategically expands its portfolio, always with the aim to be a specialist provider for specialized solutions.
Think Globally, Act Locally
Despite its international orientation, FAS remains connected to its roots: The Salzgitter location is specifically strengthened - as an industrial center for high-quality specialized solutions.
"We believe in the industrial location of Germany," emphasizes the managing director, "not in mass production, but in sophisticated engineering." FAS currently employs more than 130 people and is active in over 140 countries, with projects around the world. Being part of the Makeen Group opens up new possibilities without diluting the brand's independence. In a few days, the company will celebrate its 50th anniversary – a remarkable journey from a garage startup in Salzgitter to a globally sought-after specialist provider of technical solutions for liquefied gases.
