"Tradition Meets Innovation – Wooden Windows and Doors Since 1986"
Interview with Alexander and Christian Kubasch, Managing Directors of KUBASCH Windows & Doors GmbH
Windows and doors of a house have many functions. They let in light and air and they open up paths. Moreover, their design says a lot about the taste and personality of the residents. To make the right choice and get high-quality products, KUBASCH Windows & Doors GmbH located in Mirow at the Mecklenburg Lake District is the go-to partner for standard elements as well as for unique and unconventional solutions.
"For 37 years, we have been a family business, and our name stands for quality from A to Z," says Christian Kubasch, one of the three managing directors and partners of KUBASCH Windows & Doors GmbH. "Our expertise lies in the construction of special windows as well as in the renovation of old buildings and monument protection. In doing so, we consciously rely on techniques that do not conform to the standard norm. This allows us to offer our customers individual solutions and respond to their specific needs."
KUBASCH places great value on quality and relies on comprehensive control. "We make every effort to carefully check every element. We pay particular attention to types of wood, wood moisture, and color fastness to ensure that our customers only receive the best products."
Wide Range of Products
It is an extensive portfolio that KUBASCH offers around windows and doors. It ranges from consultation, development, and manufacturing to delivery and installation. Here, the customer can choose between wooden front doors and wood-aluminum doors, wooden and box windows, wood-aluminum windows, as well as lift-and-slide doors. Within the individual product segments, there is a wide variety of options: types of wood, glazings, profiles, and colors are just as much a part of this as muntins, sealings, and security technology.
"We have an extensive selection of different high-quality wood species. Particularly noteworthy is our Red Grandis wood, which comes 100% from certified cultivation and now makes up the largest part of our production. Of course, we also use other quality woods such as oak, pine, spruce, Accoya, and mahogany. As specialists in the field of monument conservation and custom special construction, we are able to produce unique products. In addition, we also manufacture security windows up to RC3 and are planning fire-protected doors and windows as a new segment for the future.
State-of-the-art Machine Park
In 1986, Edwin Kubasch founded the construction carpentry KUBASCH in Mirow on the Mecklenburg Lake District. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the company moved to an industrial area and was able to build a new carpenter's workshop with office spaces. In the following years, the KUBASCH company continuously expanded and extended its machine park. In 1998, a storage hall with an area of 800 sqm was built. In the same year, the company received the RAL quality mark as well as the quality mark "Manufacturing and Installation". In 1999, a new hall for custom constructions with CNC technology followed, and a year later, a state-of-the-art production line.
In 2005/2006, the complete machine park was modernized. A state-of-the-art paint spraying system was installed in 2010, and in 2016, another production hall was added. In 2022, the sons Alexander and Christian also took over the management and thus continue the company in the 2nd generation with their father.
Digital and Sustainable
At KUBASCH, only digitally controlled machines and CNC systems are already in use. "By the end of this year, we will have achieved full digitization in production," explains Christian Kubasch. "Then, every order will be transmitted digitally directly into production. Next year, warehousing will also be integrated."
Just as vigorously as digitization is being driven forward, KUBASCH is also intensively dealing with all aspects of sustainability. "We operate a 600-KW photovoltaic system and have generated 53% of our energy costs in seven months," says Christian Kubasch. "To optimally use our waste, such as chips and wood residues, we use them for heating and for producing briquettes with our own briquetting plant. We are also switching our painting to ecologically harmless paints." The company is also committed to nature conservation. For years, kestrels have regularly nested at a height of 12 m on a chip tower on the company premises. The nesting aid was made and installed by Kubasch employees according to NABU guidelines.
No Blinkers
The well-being of the employees is very important to the management. Therefore, flextime models, good pay, and the possibility to work from home are a matter of course, as is the general provision of drinks and fruit. The teams are equipped with laptops, the offices are air-conditioned, and ergonomically furnished. "The hierarchies with us are very flat," assures Christian Kubasch. "My brother and I can delegate well. Together with the team, we set goals, evaluate our results, and see how it went. We also encourage employees to further their education. With us, there are no blinkers."
New Paths in the Future
The planning of another 60 x 60 m hall and also the acquisition of another robot in surface coating are already under discussion. "It is very important for us that the company grows and digitizes to continue to be successful in the future. Therefore, it is very dear to our hearts that our employees feel comfortable, because they are the engine of the company. Without their commitment and cooperation, the company would not be where it is today."
