MAIT connects worlds: People, Technology, Services
Interview with Stefan Niehusmann, CEO, and Carolina Jansen, Head of Marketing & Leadmanagement DACH at MAIT
With the clear mission of 'creating the future,' MAIT has developed into one of the leading medium-sized IT consulting and systems integration companies in recent years. The company not only focuses on comprehensive solutions but, above all, on strong partnerships and a family-like corporate culture. At MAIT, people stand behind the technologies, working together as equals.
Wirtschaftsforum: Mr. Niehusmann, MAIT has experienced impressive growth over the past few years. What is the current situation of the company?
Stefan Niehusmann: We have developed very well in recent years and have grown to over 900 employees. We are mainly active in the DACH region and have consistently oriented our organization towards this. Since 2020, we have conducted over 20 transactions in the market, which has further fueled our growth.
Wirtschaftsforum: Ms. Jansen, how would you describe MAIT's market position?
Carolina Jansen: We have positioned ourselves very well as a mid-sized IT consulting and system integration company. In the renowned Lünendonk List, which is compiled annually, we are currently ranked 8th among the top 10 mid-sized IT consultants. This shows that we have established ourselves as a digitalization partner. We are no longer just a pure value-added reseller, but a comprehensive partner for our customers.
Wirtschaftsforum: What are the main areas in which MAIT operates?
Stefan Niehusmann: Our business sectors ERP and PLM are supported by our IT business sector and our comprehensive managed services offering. This combination allows us to provide holistic and cross-functional solutions to our clients. Our focus is clearly on manufacturing SMEs, but we also have specialized skills in wholesale.
Wirtschaftsforum: How does MAIT manage to assert itself in such a dynamic market?
Carolina Jansen: A key factor is our comprehensive consulting and expertise. Where clients might otherwise need two or three partners, we can provide everything from a single source. Additionally, we place great emphasis on an excellent pre-sales process and close collaboration between various experts in-house. We focus on truly understanding what the client needs and how we can best advance their interests.
Wirtschaftsforum: What innovations have you developed for your customers recently?
Stefan Niehusmann: A significant innovation is our revamped data center, the MAIT.Cloud. We have completely modernized the infrastructure to provide even higher quality services to our clients. Moreover, we have expanded our managed service offerings. We can now monitor and support not just the IT infrastructure but also the applications for our clients.
Wirtschaftsforum: Ms. Jansen, how important is corporate culture for MAIT?
Carolina Jansen: Corporate culture is of central importance to us. We have developed a guiding principle based on our values: 'At eye level' and 'Pioneering' are key terms here. Our credo is 'MAIT connects worlds,' which refers both to the connection of people, technologies, and services, as well as to the dynamic interplay between us as an organization, our employees, manufacturers, and clients.
Wirtschaftsforum: How do you deal with the shortage of skilled workers?
Stefan Niehusmann: It is indeed a major challenge. We place a strong emphasis on our own training, through both dual study programs and classic apprenticeships. We have also developed programs for career changers. Our strong employer brand helps us immensely. We invest a lot in our employees and in good leadership culture, which is reflected in exceptionally good reviews on platforms like kununu.
Wirtschaftsforum: Ms. Jansen, what is the international orientation of MAIT like?
Carolina Jansen: Our focus is clearly on the DACH region. We operate in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland and have a total of 23 locations. We recently opened a sales company in the Netherlands for the Benelux area, but this remains an exception for the time being.
Wirtschaftsforum: What are the goals for the near future?
Stefan Niehusmann: We want to further expand our Managed Service offerings and strengthen cross-selling between our business divisions. In addition, we continuously work on expanding our product portfolio and pursue our M&A strategy to generate further growth.
Wirtschaftsforum: Ms. Jansen, what makes working at MAIT so special for you personally?
Carolina Jansen: For me, it's the opportunity to really make an impact and to be effective. Whether it's in leadership, where I advocate for a healthy leadership culture, or in developing our brand. It makes me happy to see how together we achieve great development.
Wirtschaftsforum: Finally, Mr. Niehusmann, what drives you personally?
Stefan Niehusmann: For me, the focus is on people. I travel a lot to our various locations to bring people together, get processes going, and transport our leadership culture. It's about finding the right people who fit with us and integrating them – whether they are employees, leaders, or partners.
