The Tyrolean company Felix Troll, specializing in the transport of liquid food, is about to start a new chapter. Under the leadership of Matthias Hall, the traditional brand aims to reconnect with its former successes and establish itself as a leading provider in the German-speaking region. Matthias Hall, Key Account Manager for Food Logistics, is following a clear strategy to prepare Felix Troll for the future. In the interview, he explains the company’s strategy and the challenges of the industry.

Felix Troll, established in 1947 in Tyrol, specializes in the transportation of liquids in the food sector. Following the acquisition by the Dutch WEMMERS Group in 2007 and since 2022 part of the Nijhof Wassink Group, the company is now focusing on expansion. "My drive is to position the FELIX TROLL brand as 'BEST IN BULK'," explains Matthias Hall. With an annual turnover of around 55 million EUR within the WEMMERS Group, 340 vehicle units, and a total of about 370 employees, of which 300 are drivers, the company is well-positioned.

Specialization as a Key to Success

The focus on liquid transports in the food sector proves to be a competitive advantage. "We transport everything from fruit juices to chocolate masses to vegetable oils," says Matthias Hall. The stringent hygiene regulations and necessary cleaning processes between transports pose a challenge but set the company apart from the competition. "With our high-quality equipment and European network, we can offer our customers excellent service," emphasizes Matthias Hall. The long-standing experience and expertise of the company in handling sensitive liquids are crucial factors for success.

The Future of Felix Troll

Despite its specialization, the industry is not immune to current trends. The digitalization in dispatch and planning is progressing, but Matthias Hall is convinced: humans remain irreplaceable. Particularly, personal customer care is a priority. Matthias Hall relies on open and direct communication: "Many customers are no longer used to someone actually picking up the phone and calling. I maintain direct contact to re-anchor the Felix Troll brand in people's minds." At Felix Troll, not only the customer is the focus, but also the employees. High employee satisfaction is an important success factor.

"We currently have enough drivers and many are applying to join us," Hall is pleased to report. One reason for this is the relatively high level of planning security and the opportunity to be home more often than in other areas of the logistics industry. The issue of sustainability is also increasingly coming into focus for the company. "In my opinion, HVO is the most sensible alternative, especially in heavy traffic, where practical alternatives are still lacking," emphasizes Matthias Hall.

Whether through the use of HVO or the expansion of the electric fleet – Felix Troll is ready to take the necessary steps towards a more sustainable future together with its customers. With a strong focus on quality and the support of the Dutch parent company, the company aims for market leadership in Austria. Felix Troll relies on its roots: "There are many in Austria who still produce under the Austrian flag. It is my motivation to become number one," summarizes Matthias Hall.
