A clear focus, a competent team, expertise, and know-how have made a company from Styria a market leader for transport between Europe and the Orient. NUN Overland GmbH is known as a pioneer in Turkey and a specialist that guarantees fast, efficient, and reliable transport.

The story of NUN Overland GmbH began in 1955, is marked by various acquisitions and sales yet stands for constancy and continuity. The transportation company early focused on traffic to and from Turkey and has established itself as a strong partner for its customers.

Logistics Expert and Turkey Specialist

The company was founded in 1955 as Alois Nummer GmbH. It was first sold in 2000, and further sales followed until 2009. In 2009, the present managing director Kurt Stessl, together with Hannes Reiterer, Jochen Neukirchner, and a Dutch partner, took over the company. The company, since then operating as NUN Overland GmbH, celebrates its 15th anniversary in 2024. 30 employees, 12,000 m² of warehouse space on a total area of 40,000 m², and an annual turnover of 40 million EUR indicate that the three managing directors made the right decision.

"We have always had a very strong affinity for Turkey and today we are number 1 in our segment in Austria," emphasizes Kurt Stessl. "From consumer goods to industrial goods, we transport a wide variety of merchandise by water, air, and land."

The areas of sea containers, truck traffic, and warehousing shape the portfolio. Everything is centrally controlled from Leibnitz, Austria, where the headquarters are located in an idyllic setting in the countryside with views of vineyards, goats, and donkeys. A photovoltaic system is installed on the roofs of the warehouse - NUN's contribution to responsible handling of nature. "A greater commitment to sustainability is unfortunately not possible for us," says Kurt Stessl. "We operate in the long-distance sector, where e-mobility is not an issue."

Connecting the Orient and the Occident

Since the takeover in 2009, NUN has been focusing on transports between Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Turkey. Customers who have once worked with NUN appreciate the professionalism and experience of the company around Turkey transports - and remain loyal to the company. This also applies to employees who have been working for NUN for 30 years or more. After a company affiliation of five years, everyone is entitled to a company vehicle - just one example of doing something for the team.

The managing directors are also part of this well-coordinated team. They went from employees to bosses and are still active as employees, as Kurt Stessl says. They also continue to focus on growth in the future - as they have in the past years.

"The market is difficult to assess," says Kurt Stessl. "More and more large shipping companies are looking for direct business; therefore, we currently have to do a lot of convincing work with customers. Turkey remains nevertheless a promising market with great potential for the future."
