Technology Meets Humanity: The Evolution of Security Services
Interview with Jens Rander and Stefan Müllenberg, Managing Directors of Protection One GmbH
The security sector is undergoing transformation. The acquisition of Protection One GmbH by the globally operating Securitas Group is a clear expression of this development. Securitas, the largest private security service provider in Germany, thus takes over another specialized technology provider in the market and enhances its range of Protective Services. The acquisition opens up new opportunities for Securitas and Protection One to grow in the important future field of technology-focused security services. The purchase not only promises to strengthen their market position but also the ability to develop innovative security solutions that meet the requirements of an increasingly digitalized world. In the interview, the two managing directors of Protection One, Jens Rander and Stefan Müllenberg, discussed the reasons for the acquisition and provided insights into the operational areas and technical expertise of Protection One.
The decision by Securitas to acquire Protection One is strategically motivated. "Securitas has strengthened its position as a market leader in Germany with the acquisition of Protection One and now has a business division focused on small and medium-sized enterprises, which complements its technological expertise in remote monitoring with real-time intervention," explains Jens Rander. In a time when customer requirements are becoming increasingly demanding, Securitas sees in Protection One a suitable addition to its company portfolio to combine intelligent technological solutions and highly specialized personnel services as an extended service from a single source.
"We have 27 years of experience in the security industry and are known for our innovative solutions," says Stefan Müllenberg. This expertise in technological security, especially in 24-hour remote monitoring with live perpetrator speech, is a decisive advantage that Protection One brings to the Securitas group. With the combination of state-of-the-art technology and qualified security forces monitoring sites and intervening when necessary, Protection One was also able to significantly expand its range of services.
Protection One has established itself in recent years as a competent provider in the field of technological security. The company offers a wide range of services, including the installation of security systems monitored by its own VdS-certified control centers, as well as the individual development of comprehensive security concepts. In this setup, the network of control centers, consisting of the Alarm Receiving Center (ARC), certified according to DIN EN 50518, and the Emergency Call and Service Center (ESC), certified with VdS 3138, plays a central role in the company's security architecture. This model ensures very high fail-safety and allows the entire customer portfolio to be managed redundantly from two locations simultaneously.
"Our control centers are certified to the highest standards and are the core of our services," explains Stefan Müllenberg. "They are staffed around the clock to respond to security incidents within seconds in the event of an emergency. The security staff at the control centers receive and process incoming alarms from monitored objects, assess the situation, and trigger the individually agreed upon alarm chains, including notifying owners or the police." Through the use of cutting-edge technology and qualified professionals, Protection One ensures timely intervention, minimizes damage, and significantly contributes to the safety of its customers.
Security Technology Plays an Increasingly Important Role
In addition, Protection One specializes in the integration of modern technologies. "We rely on innovative solutions that enable us to enhance the security of our customers," says Jens Rander. This includes the use of video surveillance systems, motion detectors, and acoustic monitoring techniques that are connected to central control stations.
Taking Advantage of the Benefits of Digital Technology
The technological expertise of Protection One is a key component of the acquisition by Securitas. "We see enormous potential in combining personnel security and technological solutions," says Jens Rander. The security industry faces the challenge of developing innovative approaches to meet increasing requirements.
"Digital transformation is changing our security needs. Driven by the growing progress of Artificial Intelligence, digital transformation enables new ways to ensure security for businesses," explains Stefan Müllenberg. These technologies make it possible to reduce false alarms and increase the efficiency of security measures. "With software-supported analysis and processing of all incoming event reports, we can already respond in seconds. With acoustic and visual remote monitoring, we achieve an independently audited damage prevention rate of 98.3% in real burglaries," adds Jens Rander.
The combination of Securitas' manpower and the technological know-how of Protection One allows for offering comprehensive security solutions that include both manual and automated security measures. "We want to offer our clients not just products, but tailored solutions that meet their specific needs," emphasizes Stefan Müllenberg.
Well Positioned for the Future
"We face strong competition in Germany, but we are well positioned," says Stefan Müllenberg. As an independent business unit of Securitas, Protection One operates throughout the entire country. Years of experience with a clear focus on the needs of particularly medium-sized customers and industry-leading innovation are the success characteristics of Protection One. Expanded by the service range of Securitas, they now aim to grow further.
