With Know-how and AI: Software for the Credit Process
Interview with Thomas Jansen, Executive Board Member of SUBITO AG
Companies increase their efficiency by automating processes as much as possible. Employees can then be deployed where humans are really needed. In the financial industry, it is mainly credit processes that can be largely automated through software solutions. With their expertise in this field, SUBITO AG has been a valued partner of banks and financial service providers for over 30 years.
Wirtschaftsforum: Mr. Jansen, the core business of SUBITO AG is software solutions for the finance industry. What does your portfolio look like in detail?
Thomas Jansen: We have three business segments: The first encompasses software solutions to support credit processes in banks and financial service providers. This means, our solutions support the entire credit process from A to Z, from mediation and allocation, throughout the entire term, and also in processing loans with payment disruptions (problem loans). We have been working in this area since our founding 34 years ago. Our second business area has developed from the first and includes software for debt management, which can be universally employed across all sectors to handle claims with disrupted cash flow. Here too, the entire process is supported, from the dunning process to legal disputes with debtors. The customer spectrum here ranges from energy suppliers to the public sector and clients from the industry to debt collection firms. The third area is in consulting: We provide our clients with our expertise in the IT environment within a consulting approach.
Wirtschaftsforum: How automated is the process of issuing a loan, for example? Does software handle all the decision-making processes, or are humans still involved in the final stage?
Thomas Jansen: It depends on the segment where the loan is issued. Traditional consumer loans are usually highly automated, such as when a customer buys something on credit online. Then relevant interfaces, such as with Schufa, are already integrated. The real estate financing business can also be handled very automatedly. However, it looks different in corporate banking, where it involves individual financing that needs to be discussed between the borrower and the lender. Here, the degree of automation is not as high yet, although I am sure that this will change as artificial intelligence capabilities continue to increase.
Wirtschaftsforum: What topics are on the agenda of SUBITO?
Thomas Jansen: We are currently working on making our software more workflow-based to support automation to a greater extent and thereby enable even greater flexibility for our clients. AI is, of course, also a topic. We are part of the FINNOFLEET corporate group and have an AI lab there. The question for us now is how to integrate the emerging things and the know-how we are gaining there into our software. Especially in debt management, the use of AI is promising, where it concerns the most favorable time and the best way to approach each debtor.
Wirtschaftsforum: One last personal question, Mr. Jansen: What drives you personally in your profession?
Thomas Jansen: I want to ensure continuous progress and positive development for our customers and our employees. I really enjoy working with people, both within the company and with our clients – this too is something that motivates me. Since 2021, we have been part of FINNOFLEET and it really spurs me to contribute to building the corporate group for the DACH region.
