There was a time when buying electricity was simple. There was one network and one distributor, you received your electricity, and you paid the bill. Today, market forces have been brought into play to bring down prices and improve customer service. The only problem is how to dismantle a monopoly. The solution is to separate the functions of electricity distribution and supply. Although there is still just one physical electricity network, electricity network operators are responsible for electricity distribution and delivery while electricity suppliers have taken over the job of selling that electricity to the end user.
