A burger made from buffalo worm instead of beef? It sounds unusual, but is actually a tasty and healthy alternative to meat. Bugfoundation is conquering the German mass market with its insectburgers – an idea which emerged from a defining moment the two founders experienced while travelling. The product is already an established feature in many supermarkets and restaurants, and western customers have been surprisingly enthusiastic. Founder Baris Özel spoke to European Business about the lessons learnt during the company's first months, the leap onto the shelves at Rewe, and the search for investment on the successful VOX show 'Die Hölle der Löwen' (known in the English-speaking world as Dragon's Den).
