Advanced polymers and high-performance plastics have taken over in many areas where previously metals or other materials held sway. Thanks to modern formulations and manufacturing methods, they can offer similar or superior levels of strength, rigidity and flexibility but at greatly reduced weight. Covestro A/S (Nordic) is currently experimenting with unsaturated polyester resins in the manufacture of wind turbine blades.
