A Strong Partner in the Data Center
Interview with Arnd Krämer, Managing Director of Technogroup IT-Service GmbH
For over 30 years, Technogroup IT-Service GmbH from the Greater Frankfurt area has been taking care of the smooth operation of their customers' data centers in terms of hardware. The company is now part of the French Evernex group and can thus build on an even greater global impact. In the interview, Managing Director Arnd Krämer explained why his declared goal is for the company to rise to number 1 worldwide in its segment and why this has nothing to do with misunderstood competition thinking.
Wirtschaftsforum: Mr. Krämer, Evernex stands for manufacturer-independent IT services from a single source - what exactly do you offer in the market?
Arnd Krämer: The majority of our activity spectrum is dedicated to the classic third-party maintenance business, where we primarily support our customers with service level agreements (SLAs) in maintaining and repairing their IT equipment. Besides an unconditional reliability and our constant availability around the clock, another key aspect is our global coverage. Many of our clients – including well-known corporations such as major automotive manufacturers or large mid-sized companies – are globally active themselves and thus require a strong global IT partner at their side. Furthermore, we engage in numerous value-added services, especially in the IMAC area, to offer our clients, if necessary, all services from a single source and completely relieve them of the complexity involved in the IT environment, if they so desire.
Another important area of activity is our trade in IT products, whose components we specifically purchase and then either use as spare parts in the refurbishment or repair process or resell to other customers – we also see this as an important step towards a fully sustainable IT landscape.
Wirtschaftsforum: How green is the IT in your company now?
Arnd Krämer: Globally, the ongoing enormous growth of the IT industry undoubtedly poses a significant challenge to the worldwide sustainability goals – as the CO2 emissions from IT equipment are now higher than those of all air traffic combined. However, the majority of emissions in our economic segment occur during the extraction of raw materials and the production of the respective components, not during ongoing operations. Through our clear focus on refurbished spare parts, Evernex contributes to a sustainable extension of the lifecycle of IT equipment, which is not least due to the high-quality of the OEMs' products. Of course, we also support our customers with CSR reporting now.
Wirtschaftsforum: Since 2020, Technogroup has been part of the French Evernex group. What opportunities arise from the new corporate structure?
Arnd Krämer: Up to this point, Technogroup has already recorded continuous growth over 30 years and systematically expanded its geographic catchment area through a successive expansion of its maintenance and sales network with several branches throughout the DACH region. When we undertook contracts for customer servers located abroad, we could only represent the corresponding monitoring and repair activities via subcontractors. However, through the global activities of Evernex, we are now present in 44 countries and can drive important innovations even more stringently internally due to an effective matrix structure.
Wirtschaftsforum: What specific changes are you looking at?
Arnd Krämer: More and more customers are looking for a single point of contact for their IT solutions where various topics can be consolidated. This simplifies the client-side processes noticeably – and especially many medium-sized enterprises can and want to maintain no own departments for the maintenance and renewal of their IT equipment but rather rely on a transparent and seamless solution. Third-party maintenance will undoubtedly remain our main field of business, but we will also expand our range of services in conjunction with Evernex to support our customers even more holistically. Furthermore, we want to further simplify and sometimes automate our existing processes so that our customers can more seamlessly create their contracts with us and access our services.
Wirtschaftsforum: What goals would you like to achieve in the coming years?
Arnd Krämer: Currently, we operate as the largest third-party maintenance provider in the DACH region and the third-largest player worldwide. We have a clear goal of advancing to first place globally—not out of vanity or a misconceived sense of competition, but rather to be able to support our customers around the world more comprehensively. Naturally, our top-tier team is indispensable for this purpose, which is why we have extensively developed our corporate culture with our Chief Cultural Officer in order to remain an attractive employer in the long term and to be able to consistently utilize the entire know-how of all our staff members. Because without their creativity, we could never have implemented this strong growth and ironclad commitment to Green IT.
