Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has been commissioned by the Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co. Ltd (ZPMC), to increase the operating height of four ship-to-shore (STS) cranes for APM Terminals Algeciras in southern Spain. The project has started in June this year, with the cranes returning to full operation in just four months, in October 2013.

Global Container Terminals in New Jersey plans to implement Cargotec's Kalmar SmartQuay solution for six quay cranes as part of an ongoing automation project. The SmartQuay solution improves productivity during vessel operations and is delivered in partnership with APS Technology Group, part of the Kalmar SmartPort Alliance. The system automates data capture for all container movements, automatically builds ship plans and provides tools for managing traffic at the quay. The crane solution utilizes optical character recognition (OCR) technology to automate data capture for all container movements. Global Container Terminals is also implementing APS MatchMakerTM solution to automatically associate containers to terminal-owned trucks during handoff, and the APS X-ClerkTM exception handling system.

Cargotec's Board of Directors has concluded that a separate listing of Marine business area provides an opportunity to accelerate growth and value creation of the business. The Board has decided to proceed with the preparations for a separate listing of Marine in Asia latest by the second half of 2013 subject to market conditions. Cargotec will retain a majority stake in the listed subsidiary.

Cargotec receives major port equipment order from DP World Australia

Cargotec has received a major order to deliver 14 Kalmar automatic stacking cranes and 14 Kalmar one-over-one shuttle carriers to DP World Brisbane Pty Limited in Australia. The equipment will be taken into use at the Port of Brisbane. DP World Brisbane will also be using Navis Sparcs N4 TOS in their Brisbane terminal expansion. Deliveries of the equipment are scheduled for 2013 and early 2014. The parties have agreed not to disclose the transaction value.

Cargotec has received a major order to deliver 44 automated straddle carriers (AutoStrad®) and related automation technology to Asciano's Container Terminal at Port Botany in Sydney, Australia. The deliveries of Kalmar ESC350WA straddle carriers are scheduled between end of 2013 and early 2014.

Kleven orders 400-tonne advanced offshore MacGregor crane from Cargotec

Cargotec has secured a substantial new contract from Norwegian company Kleven Maritime. Delivery includes a 400-tonne MacGregor active heave-compensated offshore crane with an outreach of 15m. A second smaller crane, which will have a safe working load of 100-tonnes at 9m outreach, is also included in the contract. The 400-tonne unit will have its winch installed below the working deck.
