Oil and gas wells have only a limited productive lifetime before they become too expensive to operate and must be sealed. Norway, whose high standard of living is built on the rich oil reserves in its territorial waters, has around 3,000 active wells, all of which will at some stage in the future require so-called plug and abandonment treatment. The traditional method of sealing spent wells has not changed much in decades and takes ten days to complete. HydraWell Intervention AS has developed a new system, which cuts the time needed to just three days.
