New drug discovery is a long and difficult process that demands huge upfront investment with little guarantee of a return at the end. It is very much a numbers game: For one new drug to reach the market, at least 5,000 molecules have to be investigated. Contract research organization Pharmacelsus GmbH aids pharmaceutical companies at the preclinical stage of this research. Through its work it helps to sort the wheat from the chaff to find the molecules with the greatest potential of becoming the next drug.
